Subject: WMCL Return-to-Play Tournament Concept
--Hi WMCL Family,Hope all of you have been keeping well during these unprecedented times. It definitely has been a challenge for everyone and we have missed connecting with each other on the cricket field. As Virginia enters its Reopening Phase 1 plan this Friday 5/29, WMCL is exploring options on returning to cricket as well. Any return to cricket will be per the guidance from the county and state officials and will adhere to the medical guidelines. We are reaching out to all teams to explore your interest in the following 'Return-to-Play' concept during this initial Reopening Phase 1:Tournament Format:Players: 8-players per teamOvers: 10-15 overs per innings# of Games: Will depend on total number of teams participatingPrize Money: Will also depend on number of teams participatingStart Dates: Weekend of June 13th, 2020 (tentative but pencil this in for now)Important Covid Related Health Guidance:1. Only 10 players are allowed on the playing field at any time2. 8 players will be from the fielding side, 2 from the batting side3. Main umpiring will be done (honestly) by the non-striker batsman. No leg umpires will be used. (The non-striker batsman will make the calls on wides, no balls, and caught behinds)4. Fielders cannot be within 6 feet of each other5. Fielders can wear gloves while fielding (except for wicket keeper style gloves)6. Remaining batting team players need to remain off the field and maintaining social distancing protocols as outlined by the county and health officials. So remain in your cars, stay 6ft away from each other, don't congregate as part of a pavilion, don't huddle together on the benches/trees, etc. Wear you masks when in closer proximity to anyone.7. Scorekeeping to be performed by the next batsman scheduled to come in (or someone sitting afar on their own)8. We may add more items as deemed necessary based on any new guidance received9. Team arriving for the subsequent match should remain in their cars until members from the prior game have vacated the field/parking lot. We will have to be efficient as a group to manage logistics.10. Don't share equipment from a team kit bag - we strongly suggest players should be carrying their own playing equipment and drinks to the field.11. Runout decisions will be taken on an honor system. Ofcourse clear run-outs will be simple for everyone to agree on. Any close calls will be benefited to the batsman. Again the idea is to play the game in its fair spirit under the limitations we have. What does this mean for you as Team Captain/Manager?Please reach out to your team members and gauge an interest level of participation based on the above mentioned format and health guidance. If there is enough interest or no interest then please send an email to orga...@wmcl.net by next Tuesday 6/2 @ 10pm indicating your teams interest.Collectively its our social responsibility to maintain the guidelines laid out and what our county/state/medical professionals are asking us to follow. We need to remember and adhere to it for everyone's safety.Take care and be safe!Regards,
