Zecharia Sitchin Tribute – to his passing.
I would think that most searchers of cosmic truths realize the value of discovering an honest, common sense, and logical explanation for the existence of Homo sapiens or earth. Zecharia Sitchin provided understanding and a sense of purpose for me. He changed my life. He gave me clarity, direction, and the confidence to discuss creation matters with others who understood. I speak for myself in these matters regardless of the rejection of his research by some who have given me that ‘smirk of ignorance’, I shall call it, because their unawareness and unknowing is the fear that challenges their academic, religious, and political security.
Sitchin did not merely point out the archaeological and anthropological oddities of how we arrived at our present human condition, he pierced the core of such mysteries and explained the ‘how’ and ‘why.’ Zecharia set a supreme example of humbleness in defense of his research and conclusions. Few Sumerian and Egyptian anthropological scholars challenged him because of their inability to present defensive knowledge in their own behalf. Instead, they used their only effective weapon in such matters – that of ignoring him, thus denying academic platforms for such discussions. And many of his followers realize why his name is never mentioned by those still entrenched in a locked-in paradigm from which they cannot escape because to do so is to admit error imprisoned in political correctness and the wrath of religious authorities who also live in fear of the changes in their own camp that must occur in the near future.
I believe Zecharia Sitchin knew his purpose and probable reason for being here. In great humility and quietness of a Gandhi or Einstein, he quietly and confidently walked among, and lectured to, the inquisitive minds of his followers. I traveled hundreds of miles once, to Cleveland, Ohio, for the opportunity of merely seeing him in person and buying a third or fourth copy of his book The 12th Planet. Like an impassioned missionary, I spread the word that both alienated some old friends, and enlightened new ones. I tarnished my own creditability in the eyes of some but it was worth the sacrifice to open the minds of others. I will always remember him in the slightly-disheveled, seersucker-suit, and appearing as an Einstein – in a different, scholarly way, of course, and the short note he returned regarding a letter sent to him in which he referred me to the Akitu Festival* for an answer (page 239-241).
He persisted to the end still searching for those connections and correlations leading to the truth of our existence. His efforts should not be impassionedly ignored by scholars of such matters, the same scholars, it is my belief, that has studied and keep his work on their bookshelf, close at hand, so they too may better understand their direction, their credibility, and, ultimately, their reputation.
My hope is that the time is near when a younger generation of scholars (perhaps aided by answers coming from the sky) will not fear retribution from their older peers and reinforce and embellish Sitchin’s research with great enthusiasm. His work will be recognized in the future by those whose opinions bear heavy witness to his scientific endeavors.
*Bit Akitu (house of building life on earth). The Sumerian term A.KI.TI., from which the Babylonian akitu is derived, literally meant “build on earth life.” The 12th Planet. Page 240.
