I still own 4 acres at Rancho Hidalgo (lot 68), near Animas, New Mexico, in the hopes of eventually helping to establish a dark-sky community there, but there has been ongoing litigation over water rights, the original developers are nowhere to be found, and the Rancho Hidalgo website has been taken down.  We have a new member of Dark-Sky Communities who may have some answers about what has happened, and is happening, at Rancho Hidalgo.  Please feel free to post comments here or, if you prefer, off list at oesper at mac dot com.

Thanks much,

That's me.

The developers are currently in prison, or they may be out now, but both Turner and McShane have prison time for what they did to their investors. I heard a lot from locals about how turner was a really nice guy who let things get ahead of him- but a nice guy might have apologised in public for what he did, and that has never been forthcoming.

Anyway, several owners have got together on Yahoo groups, and will probably move to GROUPS.IO

Yeah, I think I only met McShane once, and then only briefly, but Turner always seemed like a nice guy in my dealings with him, but did seem to have too many projects going at once.

Please let me know when you get the Rancho Hidalgo (or whatever it is called now) groups.io group going - I'd like to join since I'm still a property owner there.

Speaking of groups.io, we are just getting started with Dark-Sky Communities on Google groups, but I am certainly open to moving this discussion group to groups.io if you and others think it would be a good idea.

Thanks,

Dave

Since I mod the old forum, I decided to move to google groups. At some poiint I'll move our archives into that, and put links to our files to gdrive.

The thing with Turner is he is a con-artist - he appears to be nice or the game is up, in his line of work.  And the court agreed.....
