Hey,

I just downloaded WhatsApp Messenger on my Android.

It is a Smartphone Messenger which replaces SMS. This app even lets me send pictures, video and other multi-media!

WhatsApp Messenger is available for Android, iPhone, Nokia and BlackBerry and there is no PIN or username to remember - it works just like SMS and uses your internet data plan.

Get it now from http://www.whatsapp.com/download/ and say good-bye to SMS.

It's the best, I got all my friends on it, but there is a catch. The
first year of usage is free and u pay for it from the next year on
wards at 1.99 US per anum

Tony,
I like the business model though. You get people to use it and get them addicted.
Then ask them to pay a minimal which would not pain the customers much.

Dear DarGTUG guys, remeber this strategy when you plan to monitise your projects .

I love the marketing strategy as well because I am sure 90 percent of
the people including me who have tried the software will pay for it
once the trial period is over

Another cool feature, is the ability to send your connections your exact location through WhatsApp.

This is really useful when planning social meetups, biz meetings, etc. Navigation (geo-locative mobile) is what really revolutionised the app ecosystem up north in the US & EU.

Some analysts claim that the ubiquitous & seamless or frictionless access to accurate & 'live' navigation has had as big a revolutionary impact on social communications up north as the original introduction of cellphones did.

It means that you never have to ask for directions again (because your phone takes you there, including warning about traffic or shortcuts), that you never feel lost or helpless (because you can use geo-locative & geo-fencing apps to find services / places / people wherever you are), that you never have to waste time trying to figure out convenient venues for meetings (because your phone knows where both you & your mates are, & can mine your social graphs to find out your common likes/dislikes for food, music, etc, to recommend mutually attractive venues).

Geo-locative apps have been massively disruptive up north, changing the way that people shop, eat, find work, buy property / cars, socialise (including dating), and even play (through things like Foursquare & Gowala).

Navigation has been slow to impact in much of Africa, because digital mapping has lagged due to the bottlenecks created by broadband, cost & other access challenges. This is however changing very quickly, & we need to be in the front of the curve, all we'll all end up using US apps like Yelp or CraigsList instead of local products.

Cheers,
Justin

Toying have a point there Justin, we need to be aware of the potential
that location based services have and act upon it before we realize
how late we are. I believe this is why Google is making efforts to
spread the awareness of the Android platform so that it becomes easy
for developers like us to develop such apps
