I really want to get together a bunch of like-minded people to map out
more of Dar es Salaam and Tanzania in general. I've been doing it for
a while now but it'd be nice to start a group; especially since Dar es
Salaam is now the world's 9th fastest growing city.

We can do it thematically (all health services, schools, etc) or just
get as many people together in a car and drive through DSM mapping out
places as we go. Anyone interested?

Hello Omar,

This is a great initiative. There is a GTUG meeting being planned around G-Tanzania for February 1st. Maybe we could have a little session about mapmaking there?

I am also curious to know which tools you've been using to map out Dar and Tanzania in general.

Ahsante,
Ato

Great initiative Omar, I think that can be done with a community help.

This is a very important initiative.

Loads of augmented reality, mobile apps, & open data / open government / data journalism initiatives simply don't work without accurate local maps.

Shout Omar, if you'd like to include journalists / media in the initiative. News reporting places a heavy reliance on location data, so you should view local newsrooms as potential 'heavy users' for any maps you guys develop.

Cheers,
Justin

Hi Omar and those interested in this ,

just a quick reminder though some of you may have already heard about
this at Gtanzania, that there will be a mapping party tomorrow from
11am at COSTECH, several Googlers will be around to help out during
    the event.
