Sinceshort time our company works with Autocad 2018 and I've got this now. I receive some dwg from someone else, and when I open this with Autocad 2018 and go with the mouse to some line or block, it shows some new window with all kinds of 'metadata', similar to what u might find in shp.files (but autocad couldnt read easily before). In Autocad 2016 this isn't the case, so first question:
Now, by some research, I found this might be 'extended data' or 'property data', don't know if this is right. The internet tells me this types of data can only be edited with Civil. So I installed Civil 2020, but in here, I can't find the 'metadata' anymore. Also, when i keep my mouse above the object, nothing happens. A colleague however, who still working with civil 2018 DOES see it when putting his mouse on it, but we both can't find where this data is stored or can be edit or stuff like that.
First, don't believe everything the internet tells you. Just like in life off-line, there are people who (with the best of intentions) are simply wrong. Second, everyone who reads your post can only speculate without you posting at least a small portion of the drawing.
In my opinion, there is no additional data of any kind in the attached dwg:
neither Xdata, nor Xrecord, nor Property Set, nor Object Data. Even there are no hyperlinks.
But there are a million external links...
Is there a chance that you have a third-party application installed atop Civil 3D 2018 but not on 2020? That dialog in your screenshot does not look familiar. What command do you use to bring up that dialog?
This indeed seems the case yes. or more specific infracadmap. Although I haven't got this program activated when in Autocad it still seems its active somewhere in the background, because when I haven't got this third-party application installed the window doesn't pop-up, and when I install it again it does pop up again.
As you found out, the window you are seeing belongs to an Add-on that you have installed in AutoCAD 2018. however there is a very similar feature available natively in AutoCAD and Civil 3D (any year version, its been out there for a while)
the feature is Quick Properties; when the feature is on (in the status bar), everytime you click an object, you will see a subset of the properties palette based on what you have chosen to show in the customization windows for the feature! ( click on the tiny cog wheel in the quick properties to customize).
