Dear Pain Physicians,
Warm regards to all. Around this time last year, me, Dr Ravi
Krishna Kalathur and my other good friends from Chennai, under the guidance of
Dr Gautam Das, organized the inaugural International conference on
Interventional Pain Management (ICIPM 2011) in Chettinad Medical College,
Chennai. We had a conference which included interactive lectures and cadaveric
workshops along with a FIPP review course for physicians preparing for the FIPP
exam conducted by the World Institute of Pain. The World Institute of Pain
endorsed the event. International Faculty included stalwarts in interventional
pain like Prof PrithviRaj, Dr Ira Fox, Dr Jose Hernadez, Dr Philip Finch, Dr Srinivas
Chiravuri, Dr Peter Courtney, Dr Leland Lou, Dr Sang Chul Lee, Dr Philipe Mavrocordatos,
Dr Mary Carosa, Dr Sanjay Prabhu, Dr Fabricio Assis, Dr Juan Carlos Flores etc.
And the Indian faculty who participated were Dr GP Dureja, Dr PN Jain, Dr YK
Batra, Dr Ashok Saxena, Dr RP Gehdoo, Dr Muralidhar Joshi, Dr Preeti Doshi, Dr Neeraj
Jain, Dr BibhuKalyani Das, Dr Geetha
Doshi, Dr Subrata Ray, Dr Subrata Goswami and others. This was the first time, Dr PrithviRaj actively participated in any scientific activity in this part of the world.
We had arranged for didactic lectures with fluoroscopic guided
workshops on cadavers and ultrasound guided workshops on volunteers. We were
assisted in the conference by my good friends Dr Pankaj Surange who organised
the FIPP review course in Chennai and Dr Palak Mehta who took care of the
conference book. We had about 450 delegates in all and ICIPM 2011, probably is the
biggest pain conference in India, till date. All participants were awarded 30
CME credit points by the Medical Council of Tamil Nadu. The participants also got
to enjoy the social events along with the rich beaches of coastal Chennai and
Mahabalipuram.
In continuing with these efforts, this year ICIPM 2012 will be held in All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi from 23rd to 26th of August, 2012. Dr Pankaj Surange and Dr Sushma Bhatnagar have planned of an exciting array of lectures by stalwarts in pain medicine led by the “Father of Interventional Pain Practice” Dr PrithviRaj himself. Dr Gautam Das is the Chairman of the Scientific Committee and like last year, has planned a beautiful scientific program designed to address all aspects of pain medicine. Excellent scientific programs, fluoroscopic and ultrasound guided workshops, FIPP review courses are all being planned in meticulous details. ICIPM 2012 will be the only WIP endorsed FIPP review course for this year in India. Foreign and Indian Faculty have already confirmed their participation. I am told, workshops seats are almost fully booked. So, it is going to be a scientific extravaganza and also an opportunity to interact with several doyens of pain medicine in the world. With Warm Regards,
Karthic Natarajan,
