Five years ago, I as invited by a Turkish woman scholar and professor of Sufism, Hülya Küçük at a university in Konya, Turkey, to edit and improve an English translation that she made of a manuscript that she had written in Turkish about Rumi's son, Sultan Walad (also spelled Valad, Veled). The latter wrote a huge amount of Sufi poetry that is little known because he was so over-shadowed by his father. And Sultan Walad had extraordinary teachers, such as his father and Shams-i Tabriz. I first met her at a conference in Turkey in 2011 on Sultan Veled in which I read my translations of some of his quatrains. I contributed so much to her manuscript as the editor that she promoted me to be co-author. And now, after fife years, the book is published!
