Inthe last 2 weeks I'm suddenly getting a frequent error message on my MacBook Pro when I try to print to my Canon MX860 printer which I connect to over my WiFi network. This combination has worked flawlessly for several years, but now it suddenly keeps coming up with this "Support Code: 300" error.

My Code 300 is now visiting me literally at least 1x to 3x a day to reset the operation via the menu's on my Canon Pixma MX922 and re-select the specific wifi that is running the strongest at the time (i have a couple of add-on wifi boosters due to my home configuration/layout) - re-acknowledge the password for it, and go through Canon's many "Ok" button presses.

This has happened several times to me. I re-connected using the router password then under system preferences again added the printer to my computer, deleting the old entry. Everything then worked fine again!

It's not the printer's fault. If you look through this discussion, you'll see that lots of different printers run into this problem. I suggest trying some of the suggestions listed here. I think all I did was delete and re-activate the printer. I have not had this problem in a long time so it's possible that one of Apple's printer driver updates fixed the issue.

Strange how things happen. I hadn't had the problem in a long time either and then it hit a few days ago. First time under High Sierra. I'm using a Canon MX922. I tried various suggestions, mine and others'. I tried deleting an re-activating, resetting the printer system, reloading the Canon drivers, and reloading the latest Apple Canon drivers. I believe that part of the problem is that the old printer stays around even if you delete it from the Printers & Scanners list. I'd get the printer attached but I couldn't get it to use the Canon drivers. Canon's drivers have a lot more print options than Apple's.

What finally worked was to clear everything out, go into Preview, load a document, and click Print. Then under the Printer drop down is an Add Printer option. I selected that and I could see the different types of printer available. There are entries for both Bonjour Multifunction and Canon IJ Network. I chose the Canon IJ Network option and got the printer drivers I wanted. It's quite possible that this was suggested previously somewhere in this thread. Now I have to remember this for next time.

Yes it does work correctly if I connect via USB. It sporatically works correctly over the WiFi network, once I've deleted the printer and re-installed, but then usually over-night it goes back to giving me the "Support Code:300" error message.

The support code would only be meaningful to Canon support. Since the problem is intermittent, it most likely has something to do with network conditions. Turn off all wireless devices except the Mac, the printer, and the router, and try to eliminate other possible sources of interference:

After reading some stuff online, I learned that if it's been a while since you last printed something, an ink cartridge may be empty but not trigger a 'replace' message. In fact, the ink level display will look fine and not indicate that the ink is low.

I manually opened up the printer to check on the ink cartridge levels and to my surprise, my yellow was out of ink. After I popped in a new yellow cartridge, I got no more error message and was able to print through wifi again.

Thanks for quick reply. Checked ink levels as recommended and replaced two low cartridges. Unfortunately this did not fix the problem. I have 4 macs at home and previously I have been able to print from any of them over wifi to this printer for years without incident, even when some cartridges were low or empty. Now I am suddenly unable to print from any of them.

The error code is usually a result of the printer losing connection to the wifi access point. One action would be to turn the MG8120 and your wireless computers/devices off and then turn off the wifi access point (router) for a minute. Then turn the router back on and then all your wifi devices. Then see if you can print without error.

You mention having a Time Capsule and I assume that its wireless service is enabled. Does the Verizon router also support wireless? If not, I would also assume that you are using wireless on your network and you have the Time Capsule connecting to the Verizon router via Ethernet. If so, then I would suggest moving the MG8120 to connect to the Time Capsule via WiFi or Ethernet and have the MG set to DHCP so that it can be allocated an IP address. After doing this you would need to remove the MG from the Mac's Print & Scan preference pane and add it agian.

Thanks for your help. My network was managed by the Verizon router and I had all the described trouble with the printers. I created a network with my Airport Time Capsule and everything works up to now on that network.

I got the same message, and in my case I checked the wifi network on my MacBook and somehow it had selected another network (BT free wifi), as soon as I changed it to my home network the printer started working again just fine.

Long story short, disconnected all plugs to surge protector to switch to a new desk. My wireless Cannon PIXMA MX490 printer WaS connected & working till 7 Apr 2016, but when I tried to print something the next day I got this:

I looked everywhere, in Systems Preference & Information, but found no printer connected! Eventually I was able to "add" the printer to Systems Preference, but still can't print, & still get that Code 300 message! Then I called Mac help & Cannon about the no detection / connection problem, neither could help. So I called Verizon [internet] & they say the "Code 300" is a Mac code, not theirs.

When I try to use the Cannon ij Utility, shows the MX490 series, but says it's "unsupported" what? I've been trying for 4 days to connect the printer to the Wi-Fi router, from the computer, looking at manuals, videos, downloading the printer dmg again, even manually typing in my "Net name" on the printer screen, & then using the "Mac name" shown on the printer. Nada! Zilch! AGUH! . . . HeLp me PleAse?

Second - Can someone tell me how to "secure" my Wi-Fi? My daughter says it's unprotected [before all this]. What's the WPA/WPA2 Personal under secruity & how to I make one Network name "secure" that isn't.

PS, Verizon High Speed Internet Resource Guide doesn't even have WPS in the glossary, no less what it is & how to use it, or change from "not protected" to "protected" - nor do the support techs tell you how to do that.

Actually, after several calls & several Verizon reps - 1 [one] of them had the answer! All we did was change my "Net Name" in mail preferences. I had a - [dash] between 2 words, we made it into one, no space, no dash, no punctuation marks! Once it was all out, viola, Printer & TV working well! I didn't even need to correct the printer or TV names, they just got it! Oh yeah, he also had me disconnect the router [modem] plug from the computer, & all still worked!

So, folks, all's well that ends well. Too bad it took over a week for someone to "know" what to do. Someone told me to get his name & Verizon ID # - and he got mighty high praise on the survey afterwards.

Canon Pixma Pro-100 has stopped working. The start up disc is a 32 bit and the error message says that the start up disc now needs to be 64 bit. The canon company will not respond. What can I do to get the printer to print? How can I get the proper 64 bit app to run the install disc?

Thank you for helping with the driver. It appears to be downloaded. However, the original error message, Support Code 300: "The printer does not respond. Make sure that the printer is plugged in, powered on. and properly connected to your computer." All of those are correct! This comment led me to the 32bit/64bit search. The printer has worked well, when this "support code" comment just appeared and no printing has happened since. I have two Pro-100's and both are reacting the same message?

Some Printers come with a "discovery" utility to help set this up. Most require that you use the Printer's awkward front panel and buttons to enter this information. If connected by USB, some printers allow you to pre-set-up this information before making the jump to wireless.

Hi there. I recently bought my HP Tango. Set up was simple and it was working like a dream for the first few weeks until recently. Now, when I attempt to print a job I receive the error code "The printer is not responding". However, when I print off a "Printer Information Page" it reads that it is connected to my wireless network, identifies my IP address and states the signal strength is excellent. Also states the printer is connected to the internet. It also states that "Wi-Fi Direct has been turned off". I admit, I don't know what that means. A Wireless Network test allows me to print results: Wireless = PASS / Wireless working = PASS / Signal strength = Excellent / Signal Quality = Good. I have tried re-starting the printer as well as my Mac, unplugging everything and waiting a minute etc etc. Same issue. Appreciate some help here as HP's Virtual Agent has not been able to support this issue.

Printer also do not recognize MMU unit (in support section there is N/A). Do someone else have this issue?

I contacted support - they asked me to downgrade the firmware on MMU unit to 1.0.6 and I did it - the MMU works again, but the communication with printer does not work, it probably means I need to downgrade the printer also.

I just did, however the situation is like I am stuck, MMU2s rattling, and message on printer is "IDLER CANNOT HOME" I can only retry the test, I totally freed idler (unmount from selector), tested if it can rotate freely from one side to another, everything looks ok, it can move and stop at stoppoints. However the printer after retrying rattles the idler and ended again with that error message.
