Hi all,
Thanks for the good suggestions.
Let me try to be a bit more clear.

I think if we connect with climate dots it will give us more creditability, but we should not just do it for sake of it.
At the moment I cant quite see how we can connect extreme weather events in Denmark with Tar Sands, the only think we could say would be:
'increasing use and investment in Tar Sands fueled by investment by Danske Bank + XXXX  make it more impossible to deal with climate change and rising emissions and thereby making extreme weather vents like this more likely'

I believe we have to have a direct connection and we need to figure this out shortly as we're about a month away.

Carlos great that we can use Noah's office, how many people aprox could you fit inhere?

I have also set up a blog, so we can launch it that way once we agree on details. Let me know if you would like to help me set this up and write it?

Anders

Hi Anders

I agree that "connecting tar sands (or any other CO2-emitting activities) with global climate change, and even with concrete weather events" is difficult, but we have to insist that this is a credible thing to do.

Recently, an article from Climate Progress asked (more or less) exactly this question, here answered by Kevin E. Trenberth, senior scientist, National Center for Atmospheric Research.

How To Relate Climate Extremes to Climate Change?

The answer to the often-asked question of whether an event is caused by climate change is that it is the wrong question. All weather events are affected by climate change because the environment in which they occur is warmer and moister than it used to be. The air is on average warmer and moister than it was prior to about 1970 and in turn has likely led to a 5–10 % effect on precipitation and storms that is greatly amplified in extremes. The warm moist air is readily advected onto land and caught up in weather systems as part of the hydrological cycle, where it contributes to more intense precipitation events that are widely observed to be occurring. Kevin E. Trenberth, senior scientist, National Center for Atmospheric Research, in the journal Climatic Change, released under a Creative Commons-Attribution license (PDF here, HTML here)

I think your "connection" made below makes perfect sense....at least to me.

Kind regards
Thomas

NOAHs office is perfect for a planning meeting.

Question is, whether it is useful "on the may 5th" (it takes probably 10-15 minutes by bike to the Canadian Embassy)

Yes happy with idea of a planning meeting there, and let's keep it in the loop for the 5th if we don't find something bigger or more closely located.

OK so I propose the following:

1) That we link up with climate dots and register it with an event on their website using the text I proposed below.

2) Do the same for the facebook event invite.

I'm happy to propose a text, though I think Thomas would be better at that as my danish is not perfect.

And Thomas would be amazing if you and everyone else could start inviting interesting parties.

As for agenda for the day, how is the feeling about:

12:00 - 14:00: Pre meet up (either at Noah's office or cafe), where information about the day will be given, we will have a stall with flyers etc and you can have your face painted for the flashmob. + we will show films, talks by us + others about the event + tar sands.

14:00 + 14:10 Flashmob in front of the embassy.

Drinks in the evening for anyone interested.
