Hi Kirstie & Others
I think you have made some very good decisions. I have a number of questions, that I would like to raise/discuss.
1) How many people do we want to engage in this event, both in the planning process and on the event day?
If we are going to engage more people, I guess that Carlos/I and/or others would call for a physical meeting in Denmark some time soon? How does this sound to you?
2) If people should not be engaged in the planning process, then how can they be active on the event day? I would like to be able to make a very concrete advertisement if possible, such as:
Do you want to be engaged in this years "Danish Tar Sands Day / 350 connect the dots global climate campaign" at May 5th in Copenhagen?
At this day, we will present to the Canadian Embassy, our dissatisfaction with the extremely harmful extraction of oil from the Canadian Tar Sands. This we will do, performing a creative event, including a flash mob, in front of the Canadian Embassy, close to the "Strøget" in central Copenhagen. The flash mob event is going to take place at the Canadian Embassy at time xx. However, the face painting and slogan T-shirts will be prepared at place zz at time yy, and after a short briefing, we will walk to the Canadian Embassy". We would like as many people as possible to participate, and if you expect to join the flash mob, please send an email to person ZZ at email XX.
3) Could/should we disseminate our plans by now. Also, do we want to involve all interested people? I know that the ClimateCollective (those who were quite active at COP15 in the Push for Action Event at Dec16), could be interested in joining this event. If you agree to involve them, I would be happy to inform them of our plans.
4) Regarding which companies are involved: According to the FoE 2011 report quote "Canada is currently the only major centre of production but investment is expanding, including by European oil
companies such as BP, Shell, Total and ENI". Of these, BP and Shell do operate in Denmark, whereas Total (French) and ENI (Italian) is not active in Denmark, I think. It is likely that the large danish Pension Funds, as well as many banks have investments in those companies.
Kind regards
Thomas
