I must say, 10/31 is not my favorite time of year - especially as a teacher in South Korea. Almost every 10/31, the private schools I work for put on a "Halloween Party", complete with all the reasons I abhor "Halloween". I do note that, last year, my school actually adapted the "Halloween Party" into an "International Food Party" on account of me, knowing I hated "Halloween". I thank God for their kind consideration, and pray they would be blessed for it.

Well, this year, I am at a "New Private School", they are planning a "Halloween Party". I commend them for doing away from the "scary touchy feely box" room, where kids would reach in and feel peeled grapes ("eyes"), etc. I am not happy, however, about the video room, where they plan to show "scary videos" to the children. For this reason, I was very bold in my comments to my supervisor tonight, calling for God-fearing caution, seeing we have been entrusted with innocent minds, whose angels do always behold the face of God in heaven (according to Jesus in Matthew 18).

Well, now for the "good news". I was asked to do a song with my students for 10/31! I was asked, "Do you have a song?" Approximately one nano-second later, I responded: "Yes!" Ladies and Gentlemen, if God will, it will be "Jehoshaphat time" on 10/31. Care to pray God would over-rule, be glorified, and bless the children, etc. If so, thanks.

Here it is:

"Now Jehoshaphat was king in Jerusalem
A long, long time ago
When the children of Judah all worshipped the Lord
from the high on down to the low.
Judah was a wealthy kingdom
And everybody's children were fed,
'Cause Jehoshaphat studied the word of the Lord
And did everything he said.

But out of the East came an army one day
After Jehoshaphat's gold!
They were marching right straight to Jerusalem,
And Jehoshaphat soon was told.
So he called all the people together,
And everybody fasted and prayed.
The Lord God answered the people, and he said,
'There's no need...
For you to be afraid.

’Cause the battle is mine tomorrow.
It's not yours and it's not the king's.
All you’ve got to do is just stand and watch,
To see the salvation I bring.
Just believe that what I’ve told you is exactly what
I'm going to do,
And then go out tomorrow against them now, because
The Lord's going to fight for you'...
GREAT JUMPIN' JEHOSHAPHAT!

So the army rose early next morning,
They marched on out with the king.
Jehoshaphat chose some singers,
And he told those singers to sing;
And they praised the beauty of holiness
Instead of shouting out a battle cry…
And all the way down to the enemy's camp, they sang to
the Lord on high. They were singing:

Praise ye the LORD! His mercy endures for ever and ever!
Praise ye the LORD! His mercy endures for ever and ever!
Praise ye the LORD! His mercy endures for ever and ever!
Praise ye the LORD our God! His mercy will never end!

Well, the Lord God set up an ambush - and
Got the enemy all turned around.
They started into killing each other, you know,
Till they all lay dead on the ground.
And the riches and the jewels that they left behind,
it took them three whole days to haul!
The children of Judah all praised the Lord 'cause he’d
Saved them one and all!
They were singing:

Praise ye the LORD! His mercy endures for ever and ever!
Praise ye the LORD! His mercy endures for ever and ever!
Praise ye the LORD! His mercy endures for ever and ever!
Praise ye the LORD our God! His mercy will never end!

Well, if the parallel's not real obvious now, I'll spell it right out for you:
When you see trouble coming to rip you off, here's all
That you need to do:
Just pray to your heavenly father, and believe that his word is true,
And then step out and shout the salvation of God,
'Cause he will win that battle for you!

Praise ye the LORD! His mercy endures for ever and ever!
Praise ye the LORD! His mercy endures for ever and ever!
Praise ye the LORD! His mercy endures for ever and ever!
Praise ye the LORD our God! His mercy will never end!
Etc.

Godly Stability

And I will make thee unto this people a fenced brazen wall: and they shall fight against thee, but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee to save thee and to deliver thee, saith the Lord. (Jeremiah 15:20)

Stability in the fear and faith of God will make a man like a wall of brass, which no one can batter down or break. Only the Lord can make such; but we need such men in the church, and in the world, but specially in the pulpit.

Against uncompromising men of truth this age of shams will fight tooth and nail. Nothing seems to offend Satan and his seed like decision. They attack holy firmness even as the Assyrians besieged fenced cities. The joy is that they cannot prevail against those whom God has made strong in His strength. Carried about with every wind of doctrine, others only need to be blown upon and away they go; but those who love the doctrines of grace, because they possess the grace of the doctrines, stand like rocks in the midst of raging seas.

Whence this stability? "I am with thee, saith the Lord": that is the true answer. Jehovah will save and deliver faithful souls from all the assaults of the adversary. Hosts are against us, but the Lord of hosts is with us. We dare not budge an inch; for the Lord Himself holds us in our place, and there we will abide forever.
