How does DW adjust speed and why does it seem to be better than Audacity?

I've noticed that DW seems to do a better job (at least to my ear) of adjusting the dance "speed" than "adjust tempo" does in Audacity.

Why is this?  Is DW just doing the equivalent of "adjust speed" in Audacity (changes pitch as well as tempo)?  I've never tried Adjust Speed in Audacity, but I've noticed that Adjust Tempo (even with High Quality Stretching) only works (sounds undistorted) for fairly small changes.

Anybody understand what's going on here?

Thanks,
Paul Zimmer

Hi Paul,

I hadn't noticed any difference in quality for the speed adjustment (and haven't tried a side-by-side comparison). I don't know the technology that Audacity uses to do the tempo adjustment, but internally DanceWizard uses a library called SoundTouch for the tempo adjustment (I also don't lknow how SoundTouch performs this).

DW should be adjusting tempo with no change in pitch (just like the Audacity tempo change mechanism).

Thanks,
Bill
