Hence the Walk's motto, "In His Footsteps-For Your Health."

Arun performs with innovative jazz/Indian groups, Namaskar and Lotus 5 and also leads Banyan Trees, an acoustic rock/Indian classical blend. He is privileged to study under one of India's leading violinists, Dr. Mysore Manjunath, a virtuosic and fresh breath for Carnatic music. Akshay is a talented mridangist (South Indian drum) and student of the world renown T.H. Subash Chandran (ghatam artist). Roopa is a student of Smt. Asha Ramesh, disciple of the legendary vocalist D.K. Jayaraman. Mithun has been inspired and initiated to the instrument by the pioneer of Carnatic mandolin, Mandolin Srinivas. The mandolin he plays has only 5 strings unlike the traditional 8 stringed Mandolin.

Jazz World Percussionist & Tabla Player, Sameer Gupta & Motéma Music release NAMASKAR!

CD Release Celebration at the Harlem Stage Gatehouse, a collaborative presentation with the Neighborhood Concert Seriesof the Weill Music Institute at Carnegie Hall.

 

Sameer Gupta will offer a new direction in musical possibilities with his Motéma Music debut, "NAMASKAR," an organic creative musical experience which bridges classical Indian melodies and modern American jazz. Gupta's working band - which includes Motéma label-mate Marc Cary (piano, laptop); Arun Ramamurthy (violin); Neel Murgai (sitar); and Rashaan Carter (bass) -  is a breath of fresh air in the world of global fusion: fusing classic songs from the traditions of Indian Raga music, Bollywood and American Jazz, with arrangements  that unite these songs into one distinctive sound, drawn from experiences that reflect the musicality of these international artists with passion, intelligence and beauty.

The young sitar virtuoso Niladri Kumar, son and disciple of Pandit Kartick Kumar, is one of his generation's most brilliant musicians and appeared in Zakir Hussain's Masters of Percussion tour in 2008.
