Touching Being Through the Body

To be, what I call, tactually literate, our hands have to be able to “read”. A canoeist can read the river, can understand how the river moves, its timing, its direction, its force, its shallowness or its depth. From what the canoeist sees on the surface, they can deduce what lies below the surface. A canoeist must know how to respond; when to wait, when to go over, when to go around, when to go with. The canoeist needs to know how to use the power of the river, and most importantly how to love, honor, and protect the river.

What are the unintended side effects that appear as we do our best to impart Alexander’s work? I know them because, having taught Alexander’s work for 50 years, it is only in the last 15 years that I have made substantial progress in imparting our good work without the appearance of these side effects. It took me a long time to figure this out, and I would like it not to take as long for you.
