Hi Noel,

You are so quiet. I know you must be lost for words. But as I said,
that's the parody of life.

He was your icon; He was mine as well. and of millions ...

At this moment of time, words simply can't express one's feelings. All
I can say is ' We love you Michael' You will live forever... Though
the candle have blown away, your memories will linger on and on... May
your soul rest in peace... AMEN.'.

Brazil won the Confederations cup today. They were 2 goals down.. but
still managed to score 3 goals in the second half and win the trophy..
Did you notice their reaction.. It was all praise..and praize... 'We
love you Jesus, they said'.,. That made me feel really goooood... Yes
we are looking out and evangalising the Almighty... Fantastic..

Hi Luis,

My silence is because my home broadband hasn't been working; the same
with my TV.

Here's a song I wrote on 13th May '91 which I had modified for the
Kargil show over 10 years ago - you can substitute any profession in
the song. The original was written from the perspective of a singer.
It's titled, "The Rendering of Accounts."

Sorry, never got down to recording it:)

Here is the link: <http://noelsongs.blogspot.com/2005/09/rendering-of-
accounts-by-singer_15.html>

Well those same players would have cursed if they'd have lost. So let's
not get too carried away with the reactions of football players. They're
certainly no icons of religious devotion. There are no doubt a couple of
players (Caca) who are of religious disposition. But lets not
generalize.

Hi there,
well everyones sad because of some reason or the other but I am sad because they are cutting down the pine trees behind our house in Daman. I feel dejected everytime I go there our town being ravaged and dirtied by senseless outsiders. I pray someone does something I just feel so helpless I can't do a thing. Hope we don't lose it all it would just be soul crushing.

Here is our homeland the place we love its crying out to us.

Hi Luciano,

I checked out about the pine trees - some plots have been sold to
builders and as they now own the plots, they've cleared the land and
started constructing flats:(

Hi Noel,

Are these the palm trees that line the beaches? I thought there was a
law that prevents building up to a certain distance from the high-water
mark.

Trees are a critical part of the environment - as anyone who lives in
Small Daman can attest to even when comparing the ambient temperatures,
breeze etc between Small Daman and Big Daman.

It is sad that in the third world, no one does anything about preserving
them until it's too late. Everything is so political. When the first
world countries talk about climate change, politicians in India and
China say that they can't dictate terms and prevent them from progress.
Little do they know that progress is quite useless when you're dead.

O well. This is the world we live in.

No,Gerard. This stretch of beach is in Ferreiros (behind Mr. Zezinho
Gonsalves' house). They are not palm trees - they're needle pine.
Yes, there's a law (CRZ) protecting the zone but these plots fall
outside those limits though a number of hotels in Devka have built-up
areas right up to the water!
Yeah, typically third world; stereotypical politicians.

Well, I too lived in Ferreiros, Daman before migrating to the UK. In
fact I lived just opposite Zezinho's house.

I recall the same thing happening about 15 years ago. Believe me, I
was enraged by the way they were trying to do away with the trees...I
am not bragging, when I say that I did try to highlight the issue and
obviously needed the backing of the local populace. But timid as we
are.. well that's in Damanense's blood.. none were willing to go all
the way.. 'Susegada'.. that's the mentality..and I think this
mentality is going to continue hijacking Damanenses for a long time to
come..

Well,to carry on with the topic, undeterred though alone did pursue
the matter further.. I wrote to the Forest Dept at that time, with
copies to the Navindh times, municipal, collectorate etc. I was
summoned to the forest office..a respresentative for the collectorate
and the municipality was present as well.. They assured me that they
would be re planting in due course. And that is exactly what they did
4 months after having the seashore cleared of the trees.

Apart from the above case I did take some issues which benefited the
society in general as well. And trust me I built a one storeyed
house in Ferreiros Road, without giving a dime to the corrupt
officials...and this was about 10 years ago when corruption was
rampant...

So my friends, high education or high social standing is not only the
key,,Yes, it is very important.. but someone should really have the
guts, to stand up and DO IT... Forgive me I do not intend to praising
myself, but to motivitate our young people to take the cudgels, as
well, yes, its very important to fight... Makes me remember the
country song .. 'Coward of the County'.. "Sometimes you have got to
fight to be a man".. how apt, isn't it?

And I am still trying to do it in the UK as well.. Growth and security
is the mantra..

That Keith Vaz , MP and Chairman of the Home Office select committee,
and the Leader of Leicester city council, know me by my first
name,speaks volume..of my involvement..though I am only a Production
Operative, working in a food factory...

Love

Luis Fonseca.

I remember the case in point and how your perseverance paid off in the
end. I also remember (and often cite it as an example) how you got
your P'guese PP all by yourself, without the help of intermediaries,
advocates or even translators.
Collar up, Luis!

Be careful of what a politician tries to sell as "security" - it is
almost always a curb in ones freedom.

http://www.schneier.com/blog/

As for growth, it's going to be negative for this year all round. Our
politicians have been caught napping - not just here in the UK, but all
over the world. What's worse is our financial "experts" (Mervyn King)
were napping as well - and that is both, unforgivable and inexcusable.
At least in India, the RBI didn't allow the Indian banks to run amok.

For those of you who:
1. Don't want to spend money on Microsoft Office
2. Don't want to pirate a copy of Microsoft Office
3. Need software that does what Microsoft Office does and is fully
compatible with it

Try out OpenOffice (http://www.openoffice.org/). It's fantastic, offers
most of the features that Microsoft Office provides, can export/import
to/from Microsoft Office document formats,is standards-based, and is
also legally free to distribute and use. So not only can you use it for
free, you can also share it with your friends for free.

Cheers

Following up on the free software thread, I'm sure there are many of us
all over the world who have broad-band or an internet connection and
talk to our friends over IM (Internet Messaging). All of us internet
users should be aware of the fact that whatever we send or receive is
stored at multiple places - at our Internet Service Provider (ISP), at
the server we use (i.e. Yahoo, Google, MSN etc), at some countries
gateways (yes, China has a country-wide firewall and gateway).

This is of course, an invasion of privacy. A private conversation
between two friends should not be "eaves-dropped" on by so many people.

For those of you who care about privacy, try out Pidgin
(http://www.pidgin.im/). It works on Windows, Mac and *nix systems.
Along with the OTR (off-the record: http://www.cypherpunks.ca/otr/)
plugin, you and your friend (or spouse, or sibling, or offspring, or any
other relative) can enjoy a private conversation over any IM (Yahoo
Messenger, or Google Talk or MSN) channel.

All you do is ask your friend a question that only you and he/she knows
the answer to, and that's it - your IM conversation is encrypted with
plausible deniability (i.e. if someone hacks into the encryption and
tries to listen, none of the three can prove conclusively who sent what
message to whom).

Enjoy really private conversations over public channels!
