Ayo-listers:
So far only 45 people out of the
3000 people on this list have signed up to participate in the National
Day of Panhandling for Reparations. Though I am thrilled to
have 45 people signed up, I hope to have many more, at least 100. So I
am sending you a bit of inspiration today.
This beautiful picture is of a few of
the students at the College of Wooster who had an amazing time doing
the "living flag: panhandling for reparations" performance
on their campus.
Join
these amazing students by REGISTERING now to
participate in the NATIONAL DAY OF PANHANDLING FOR
REPARATIONS
The students ended up
collecting over $22.00 in reparations in 30 minutes! They also had
powerful experiences with each other. Trust was formed between
students of different races, and some deep and powerful conversations
were started. You can see video from the day on my "dose of reality"
show that will air in about a month.
We donated the money to the families of the Jena Six.
I hope that these
creative and courageous faces inspire you to join the
performance!
If you are too shy to
panhandle, remember you can do something similar without taking to the
streets. Consider wearing a t-shirt (found here) or putting out an
anonymous can at your workplace, you don't have to put your body on
the street and ask people for reparations. These students, though they
hadn't heard of the performance before, had an incredible experience-
finding surprising moments of trust with their white classmates, as
well as challenging many of them to think and grow.
Wishing you a creative
inspiration today,
damali
ps. Your first two Now
Art Grantees are working hard and you'll hear from them very soon.
Their projects are due in December but one of them will give you a
chance to participate before then!
