Friends and Supporters:

It's always hard to ask for money, so I hope that you can bear with me through the few weeks of my first experimental funding drive. So far I've gotten good feedback, especially from artists who know how hard it is to do what we do without regular compensation. In a few episodes, on my YouTube show "Dose of Reality" I'll explore a bit about my experience living without Health Insurance for the past 12 years. As an artist there are a lot of decisions I've made so that I can build my work for you.

The funding drive is going well! My immediate need is to replace my ailing computer that I purchased with a generous artist grant from Gard and Gerber Public Relations Firm in 2003. It has taken a beating, traveling around the country for lectures and performances, and now it's on its last legs. Its disc drive is barely working and it is slow as molasses. Programs quit at will. It also has RSS (random shutdown syndrome :( )I do so much free participatory work for you on my computer that I decided to hold a participatory fundrasier this weekend to join funds to replace my beloved mac. A group came together and from near and far chipped in $661.00. That brings the grand total to 1111.00, quite an auspicious number, so I thought I'd tell you about it. Four 1s = over a thousand dollars. It reminds me of how individuals can add up to so much more when we pool our efforts.

Keep the donations coming in. Each one is an immense honor and helps me to be re-dedicated to the work I do. When I've raised enough to replace my main art tool I promise I'll stop writing you these notes. (although they are kind of fun.) Next week, I'll announce new Now Art grants and also bring some Now Art to you from the ones currently working. Next year will be a new season of lectures and projects as I re-fuel my passion for ending racism through understanding, humor and honoring the experiences we share as a community.
