I always heard anything over 100mph could get your bike impounded...
Does this not apply in New York?

States set the speed laws. In California over 100 is considered felony
speeding, impound, 1 year suspension and $1200 fine. That was in 2004 so
I'm sure it's gone up. Montana it's just speeding and a ticket and I
think of the state's around it are the same.

Sounds like we need a state by state breakdown (with emphasis on the southwest). Would be nice to know how the throttle / risk ratio changes when you cross state lines.

hang out at the 138 Pearblossom Higway this weekend. Youll see that about every 30 minutes. Awesome stretch of straightaway coming down from Angeles Crest.

Heres a Hockney painting of the POV when you enter t he highway

That's gotta be the first time I've ever heard the 138 called awesome!  Learn something new every day. =)

Its a blast coming down off the twisties. 2-3 hours of canyon riding through Wrightwood, then wide open throttle on the 138! Thats an awesome ride.

Gotta be careful on it though, a lot of CHP. Lots of head on wrecks by
cars and I know 2 people that were nearly killed by people making lefts
onto the highway. Both were in cars and in different wrecks and one
still isn't right in the head after many years. Also speed traps east
and west of Littlerock often.

I think maybe my favorite WFO spot is lockwood valley road. You do have to mind the dips though, which come up mighty fast with the needle swung around to the right side of the speedo... Oh, and there's also the surprise 90 degree bend.

This.

First time I went on this road, my mind was blown.  Same with Cerro Noroeste.

Matt, I believe you about the 138, it's just the first time I've thought of that road and "awesome" in the same sentence.  =)

Yeah that road is great but the first I saw the dips nearly crapped myself.

You also take the 5 south, 138 west and look for Pine Canyon Rd to the
right. Never anybody on it and takes you to Lakes Hughes/Lake Elizabeth
roads and choices from there. Nice big loop.
