[DAMA NE Chapter] The DIKW hierarchy - Data, Information, Knowledge, and Wisdom

Visualize a pyramid as the finished product:
Data creating a broad foundation
Information rising out of the context given to the foundation of data
Knowledge formed from analysis of the information
Wisdom gleaned from identifying and then predicting patterns from the
knowledge that we have gained.

Today I believe as an industry we construct a lot of small "project"
pyramids.
We don't quite realize the interconnectedness of the layers and
because of this do not realize the scale of wisdom that we could
extract from the data.
There is an interesting video “The Internet of Things” that paints a
vision of realizing a much more grand scale.
