MileMeter is looking for software developers, for both permanent and consulting positions.

MileMeter is the first and only company in the nation to offer auto insurance by the mile.  We build and maintain sophisticated software for e-commerce sales, policy administration, claims administration, mobile applications, customer management, accounting, financial reporting, and statutory compliance.  We use test-driven development and our software is predominantly written in Ruby. 

More than anything, you need to have good taste (and we're not referring to your clothing). There is always more than one way to solve a problem - our ideal candidate has the instincts and experience to decide between seemingly equivalent solutions to find the best fit for the circumstances.

Our ideal candidate has a natural intellect that drives their curiosity about a myriad of interests, and always seeks out new challenges - whether those challenges are programming, carpentry, music, finance, or politics.

You must be able to communicate easily at all levels - to customers, to fellow developers, and to executives.

You must have professional experience in web application design and development. Ruby experience is helpful but not mandatory. We like technology generalists that are constantly evaluating and learning new tools.

You must be comfortable in a startup environment. This doesn't mean obscene hours - we occasionally push hard to meet objectives, but all-nighters are the exception rather than the rule. What it does mean is that you will be asked to wear a lot of hats. Sometimes the phones needs answering, the network breaks, the government springs a new reporting requirement on us that needed review and implementation two weeks ago. Sometimes this happens all at once. You are calm, cool, and collected when this happens.
