Dear Members,
Vishu celebration of DAKKSH was held at the
basement hall of Uttara Guruvayoorappan temple in Mayur Vihar on April
17, 2011.
The festivities got off to a start with prayer by Usha Prakash. The
lamp was lit by Smt.Susheela Thampatty, the senior-most among women
present. "Vishukaineettam" followed with elders giving a token amount
of money to everyone.
Niranjan proved to be a maestro with the violin with a spirited
rendition of "Vande Mataram". Nice performance, Niranjan. Sweta and
Ashwin chipped in with songs.
The gathering also paid silent tribute to Sri Suddhakara Raja of
Kodungallur Kovilakam who had passed away on February 17.
Then we had a new item, the "couple quiz" organised by Mini Raja
Varma, who also doubled up as compere for the show. Seven couples were
given questions about their spouse which they had to write down on a
piece of paper, no copying allowed. Then they were called in pairs and
asked questions like what is the spouse's favourite colour, whether he
helps out in kitchen and the like. Rajan and Poornima won the event
and garlanded each other to become the ideal couple. The second prize
went to Ramani Chechi and Roy uncle.
Another competition for men was fixing a bindi on the picture of a
woman stuck on the wall. One has to do it blindfolded. Ravindran Raja
won it with an on the spot fixing of the bindi.
Post-lunch, we had "antakshari" with men pitted against a formidable
team of women. The women scored 20 points to walk away with the
prize.
I believe that the men have taken a sudden fancy to learning the
favourite colour of their wife, hobbies and television shows and have
started helping out in the kitchen in a big way. All spare time is to
be spent on learning old classic Malayalam film songs.
However, what will happen if the format is changed yet again. Only
time can tell. So far all of you who managed to make it to the
celebrations, a big thank you and for those who missed it this time
due to various reasons, be there for Onam.
