I'm no expert on trailers, but I think it has a decent chance... thin lunette, holes in brackets for the springs, shape of the hand brake lever all seem to be of the original type. Can you get a picture of the axle?

when i was looking for a Brain James trailer i did consider a BJ Bantam, i had seen pictures on the internet of minis on them but the wheels just fit so the car hangs over so an estate would hang even more
you normally have to have the mini on backward ( boot to the trailer hitch) as the trailer was designed for smart cars so the weight distribution and axle position is design for that car, as there engines are at the rear, so with an estate it may not fit . ( look at photos of the bantam and you see the axle is set more towards the back of the trailer not more centred)
also having something hanging off the back is legal up to a certain length,but if you every reverse into something or have anyone hit you from behind its the car that would get hit and not the trailer !!!! i know what i would prefer!!!

Thanks for the comment Firemen7. I have to admit to some trepidation to dumping in that first load of mulch- hasn't happened yet. I had the same feeling with loading my truck the first time. But it is a working trailer- it has earn its keep. And it needs to get some of that old patina back! But dirt and rocks- maybe not, haha.
Yes, I have a piece of plywood finished with porch and deck stain in the trailer to protect the floor. I have been considering a rubber mat. I looked at stall mats but they are really heavy- like 100 pounds! There are lighter alternatives but I haven't popped for one yet. I also installed D rings for tie downs to prevent things shifting around during transport.
Here's a trailer update. For those that read our Denver trip report, you will know that the trailer lost it's connection to our truck at a rough railroad crossing. No real harm done other than scrubbing some metal off the landing leg casting.

The trailer package also comes with a rear hub axle mounted hitch. This hitch can be used in place of a bike-specific hitch, or as a connection method on another bike so you can swap your trailer system quickly to another bike.
