Every year 700 women in America die due to complications during the birth or pregnancy. Black women are more likely to be affected than white women these tragic deaths. "Black women aren't being heard. Harris claims that women with the most resources like Serena Williams and Allyson Felix have had issues during pregnancy and childbirth. Harris doesn't think they are being heard. "We have to ensure that women's voices are heard and their concerns are considered seriously for whatever reason, be it leg swelling, pain or their mood swings."

As a youngster I was a believer that shingles was the same condition which struck sailors at sea. It was something I had read about as a childhood illness. However, when I was in the college years, my dad was diagnosed with the virus after undergoing a triple bypass heart surgery, and then shortly after, his mother (my grandmother) was also affected after my uncle passed away. The shingles condition was a problem that was more common in older individuals or those who been through a stressful time.

A friend who was going through divorce was diagnosed with the rash years later. However, she was only in her thirties. Another friend, who was in his thirties, got it -- apparently from being close to his shingles-bound grandfather.

So when I finally got shingles, at age 43 I wasn't sure I didn't realize that it affected old and young alike. It was not like I didn't know that the rash was painful typically in the middle of your body. It's caused by the herpes virus. This virus can linger within your body for a long time after the chickenpox.
