Honourable Justice Barr. Cosmas Aondover Idye is now the president of
the customary court of appeal, Makurdi.
Justice Idye was sworn in March 11, 2016 along with Honourable Justice
Augustine Iorhemen Ityoyiman newly appointed High Court judge.
According to Gov. Samuel Ortom who swore them in, the two justices
“had discharged previous assignments with distinction and it is our
conviction has come to be known..that they would add further value to
the administration of justice in their present positions.”
Gov. Ortom also stated, the ceremony was to further enhance the
capacity of the Benue State judiciary for optimal performance as
earlier, two other justices for the customary court of appeal were
also sworn in.
The governor pledged that “our administration shall continue to
partner with the judiciary and the legislature for the enthronement of
our core values. These include transparency, accountability,
selflessness, discipline, integrity, justice, fairness, equity,
integration, forgiveness, s restitution and reconciliation. We believe
that these shall make development inevitable and enhance peace and
unity in the state.”
He charged the judges to administer justice without fear or favour,
affection or ill will, in accordance with the rule of law, and to
remember that justice delayed is justice denied.
He pledged to avail resources and an enabling environment for judges
to discharge their responsibilities and also live up to the enviable
positive reputation for which the Benue judiciary
