By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.
Hebrews 11:8 - NKJV
Reflection:
Faith tugs us out of our armchairs! It tugs us with sights of things as yet invisible. Adventurers in all walks of life respond to this tug. For the adventurers of this world, this faith is in people, good fortune and research. For Christian adventurers this faith is in the Lord God and the word He has given us. We have this faith by hearing. It comes to us by hearing the word of God that is brought to life for us by the Holy Spirit. By this faith we are strong and do exploits. By this faith, what God has promised comes to pass in our lives. Heb.11:1,8,32-35. Rom.10:17. Dan.11:32b.
By faith Abraham went out. Faith tugged him up from his reposing in his dwelling in Haran to go out. He went out from where he'd been and what he'd known to journey towards what he had been promised. This was an adventurous journey he set off on. The faith it was based on, though, gave him good assurance. Faith showed him God was going to with him turning every step he made into a blessing that progressed him to the place where the promise made would become the promise fulfilled. What are we to make of this? This account of Abraham's life is recorded for us in the Bible as a living, speaking example of how we are to conduct ourselves as people of faith in our time and circumstance! Gen.12:1-9.
Where are you on your journey by faith? What step are you making today towards the place where the promise made can become the promise fulfilled? Abraham's journey in many ways was leisurely but it was always towards the promise of blessing and being a blessing. Let's join him on his journey. As people of faith let's go by faith and get ourselves listed alongside Gideon and Barak and Samson and Jephthah, also David and Samuel and the prophets in one of those books in Heaven. Heb.11:32, Rev.20:11-12.
