Let it be, Lord, so for me!
by Pastor Simon Measures
Bible verse:
Then He added, “Believe me, there are some of you standing here who will know nothing of death until you have seen the kingdom of God coming in its power!”
Mark 9:1 - J B Phillips - New Testament
Reflection:
The Lord's words in that scripture above deserve a response from us. It's a thrilling statement He's made. It's a before-you-die, in-this-life-now declaration. He said it to His disciples who followed Him on His travels ministering. Six days later three of them experienced that declaration fulfilled! They saw him transfigured on the mount.
What do we see in this? We see that, beholding the kingdom of God come in its power, is on offer to Christ's disciples! It was to those disciples back then. There's no reason to suppose that it isn't still for us - His disciples - here now. The Lord's words in that scripture above do deserve a response from us. We should respond, "Let me be one of those You speak of, Lord! May I see it come in power in my life." We need to respond with a commitment to heading in the direction of being "one of those." He's going to do it, but it's going to require this commitment from us.
Peter was one of those three who witnessed the transfiguration on the mount. Why? Because he got over being rebuked by Jesus. He got over the sense of devastation that left him with. He got over also his weakness of minding the things of men, seeing things as man sees them. You will have to do something similar so as to end up seeing something similar. You can do it by God's grace and the power of God's word in your life! (See Peter's story in the last half of Mark 8)
May you see God's kingdom come in power!
