The Learning Curve
Give us aid against the enemy, for the help of man is worthless. Psalm 108:12
I would like to know how many times I have declared something useless. I have purchased tools and products that turned out to be more of a problem than the problem I was trying to fix. There was one time I threw my cellphone into the grass. It had no signal and at that point was worthless and had become a greater frustration.
The writer of our psalm is given as David. He has learned that in fighting a spiritual enemy the help of man is worthless. Over his years as shepherd and king he has learned that the best help comes from God. On many occasions he asked for help from men against his enemies, only to be let down and frustrated by them. For most of us there is a learning curve. We try to do things one way over and over again until finally we really understand, "This is useless!" It is at that time we look for a different solution.
David was a man that attracted other fighting men to him. He knew the value of good men, but he learned that there are enemies and battles in which the help of man is worthless. God is the only hope of victory. Davie requests God's aid and declares all other help to be worthless.
Most of us have a habit of turning to a person when things go wrong. At times that person only makes the problem worse. When will we learn that God is our best and only hope? We need to turn to him for aid.
May our learning curve be accelerated so that we quickly learn that the help of man is useless, but God is our true source of aid.
