SAP PM Consultant
Phoenix, Arizona
5 month project
Minimum 60% onsite
Majority of the onsite would take place during the first six weeks for the assessment
Required SAP Skillsets:
- Deep SAP S4 HANA Expertise (specifically EAM module):
- Core Knowledge: The individual must
have a very strong understanding of SAP S4 HANA, particularly the Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) module. This includes knowledge of asset hierarchies, Bill of Materials (BOMs), Preventative Maintenance (PM) schedules, parts master data, inventory management,
and purchasing processes within EAM.
- System Flow Understanding: Critical
understanding of how data flows through SAP and how different modules interact, especially concerning maintenance, inventory, and purchasing.
- Malleability Awareness: Recognition
that SAP is highly configurable, and the client's specific implementation may deviate from "standard" usage. The expert needs to be adaptable and learn the client's specific configurations quickly.
- Data Analysis and Identification of Discrepancies:
- Navigation Skills: Ability to navigate
the SAP system efficiently to find where data outages or inaccuracies exist (e.g., incorrect asset assignments, missing BOMs, wrong locations).
- Problem Identification: Skill in identifying
that data is incorrect in a particular location within SAP and understanding what the correct data should be.
- Liaison and Communication:
- Interfacing with HQ Experts: Ability
to effectively communicate with the client's headquarters (HQ) SAP experts (MCOE team, Prometheus team) who handle large-scale data changes and approvals. This includes understanding their processes and requirements.
- Plant-Level Communication: Strong communication
skills to interact with plant personnel (maintenance, parts room staff) to understand their needs, challenges, and current workflows.
- Bridging the Gap: Act as a crucial
bridge between the plant's operational needs and the corporate SAP governance/expertise.
- Allowable System Changes/Modifications:
- Site-Level Modifications: The ability
to go into SAP and make allowable, real-time changes at the site level, whether it's related to structure, nomenclature, or other data elements. This implies having the necessary system access and understanding the boundaries of what can be changed locally
versus what requires HQ approval.
- Understanding Governance: Awareness
of the governance processes (e.g., MDOS Prometheus) that dictate how changes are made in SAP and which changes require external approval.
- Process Acumen (related to SAP integration):
- Process Improvement: The SAP expert
needs to understand how physical processes (like parts receiving, checkout) integrate with and impact the SAP system.
- Workflow Design: Ability to contribute
to designing or refining workflows that ensure data integrity within SAP (e.g., proper PO creation, inventory depletion, new part assignment).
Work Expectations:
- On-Site Presence and "Heavy Lifting" Support:
- The role involves significant on-site work at the Casa Grande plant, collaborating directly with plant staff and understanding
their day-to-day challenges.
- While PM2 might handle the physical bagging/tagging, the Siemens SAP expert would be crucial for ensuring these physical activities
are accurately reflected and managed within SAP.
- Data Cleanup and Infrastructure Correction:
- Work on cleaning up existing "garbage" data in SAP that is hindering operations.
- Assist in correcting the EAM hierarchy by ensuring that the correct BOMs and PMs are attached to the right equipment.
- Support the assignment of locations and part numbers within SAP.
- Liaison for Complex Changes:
- Serve as the plant's point person for interacting with the HQ MCOE team regarding large data dumps and hierarchy changes.
- Understand the outputs from the national team's spreadsheet efforts (e.g., corrected hierarchies) and ensure their proper integration
or follow-up within the plant's SAP environment.
- Problem Solving and Troubleshooting:
- Address issues that "fall back onto us" (the plant) for correction within SAP.
- Navigate complex SAP processes (like the 34-step part obsolescence process or the MDOS Prometheus approval process) to facilitate
necessary changes or identify bottlenecks.
- Support for Process Implementation:
- Work in parallel with process changes (e.g., new receiving procedures) to ensure that the SAP system supports these new processes
and that data is captured accurately.
- Contribute to ensuring proper "Purchase Requisition" (PR) records are in place to prevent system bypasses.
- Initial Project Initiation Focus:
- The SAP expert is particularly crucial during the initiation phase (first 4-5 weeks) to quickly learn the system's specific
usage, identify critical issues, and establish foundational SAP-related cleanup. The possibility was even raised that this specific SAP expertise might be less critical later if HQ capabilities take over, but it's essential upfront.
In essence, the Siemens SAP expert isn't just a technical resource; they are a critical problem-solver, communicator, and facilitator who can bridge the gap between
the plant's operational realities and the complexities of their SAP S4 HANA implementation, particularly within the EAM module.
