Position: IBM ODM Developer

Location: Remote

Duration: 6-8 Weeks

 

Overview

The IBM ODM Consultant/Developer (Migration Focus) is responsible for planning, executing, and supporting the upgrade of IBM Operational Decision Manager environments from version 8.11 to 8.12. This role works closely with business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into effective decision services and business rules while ensuring that the migration leverages new features and maintains system robustness, scalability, and compliance with enterprise objectives.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Requirements Analysis, Design & Migration Planning

  • Collaborate with Stakeholders:
    • Work with business analysts and IT teams to capture both business and migration-specific requirements.
    • Identify key decision models, rule flows, and integration points that will be impacted by the migration.
  • Assess Existing Environment:
    • Conduct a comprehensive audit of the current ODM 8.11 environment, including rule artifacts, decision services, and custom integrations.
    • Document current configurations and dependencies to inform the migration strategy.
  • Develop Migration Strategy:
    • Translate requirements into detailed migration plans.
    • Identify potential challenges such as compatibility issues and deprecated functionalities in ODM 8.12 and propose solutions.

 

Migration Development & Implementation

  • Migration Execution:
    • Develop, test, and deploy migration scripts and processes to seamlessly upgrade from ODM 8.11 to 8.12.
    • Utilize IBM’s migration tools and best practices to transfer decision services, rule artifacts, and configurations.
  • Environment Configuration:
    • Reconfigure rule engines, update connection parameters, and adjust security settings to align with ODM 8.12 standards.
    • Validate that all customizations and integrations function correctly in the new environment.
  • Test & Validate:
    • Execute a controlled migration in a test environment before production deployment.
    • Conduct thorough unit, integration, and system testing to ensure all business rules perform as expected.

 

System Integration, Support & Optimization

  • Integration with Enterprise Systems:
    • Ensure that the upgraded ODM environment integrates smoothly with external systems
  • Post-Migration Support:
    • Provide ongoing support during and after the migration, troubleshooting and resolving any issues that arise.
    • Monitor system performance and optimize rule execution to achieve improved response times.
  • Enhancements & Refactoring:
    • Refactor and enhance existing rules based on evolving business requirements and the new capabilities of ODM 8.12.

 

Documentation, Training & Stakeholder Communication

  • Documentation:
    • Document the migration process, including changes to rule designs, configurations, and decision services.
  • Training & Communication:
    • Develop user manuals and conduct training sessions for IT teams and business users to ensure a smooth transition.
    • Provide regular updates and gather feedback from stakeholders throughout the migration process.

 

Required Skills & Experience

 

  • Technical Expertise:
    • Proven experience working with IBM ODM or similar business rule management systems.
    • Hands-on experience with migration projects, particularly upgrading ODM from version 8.11 to 8.12.
    • Proficiency in Java, XML, and web technologies, with a strong understanding of rule modeling and decision service design.
    • Experience in designing and implementing decision services and business rules.

 

  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills:
    • Ability to analyze complex business processes and translate them into efficient rule-based solutions.
    • Strong troubleshooting skills, specifically in diagnosing and resolving migration-related challenges.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
    • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across technical and business teams.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Demonstrated success in migrating ODM environments from version 8.11 to 8.12.
  • Familiarity with integration technologies and middleware platforms.
