I apologize for the lapse in newsletters but please bear with me on my journey through graduate school. I will try to keep up a weekly newsletter but it will probably be moving to a weekend. Keep sending things over. Lots of great art fairs and another terrific play from the people who brought you Beowulf: check out Three Pianos.
Please continue to let me know whom to add onto this list. A lot of you are involved in the arts, so if you know of any events that I should be aware of, please tell me about them before Wednesday.
Enjoy. Naomi

Three Pianos @ The Ontological-Hysteric
Theater, 2nd Ave & 10th St. (Above St. Marks Church)
General $17/Student $14; Three raconteurs, each at his own piano, lead the audience through
their respective passions for "Winterreise," Schubert's
famous song cycle on winter heartbreak -- performing the songs,
grappling with fundamental questions about the nature of music, slipping into
the skins of Schubert and friends, and drinking way too much.
Compositional mayhem, shifting rivalries, and some unfortunate butchery of
the German language ensue. Written, arranged and performed by Rick
Burkhardt, Alec Duffy and Dave Malloy. Includes a reenactment of a Schubertiad, Schubert's famous
drunken music salon parties, complete with endless amounts of FREE WINE. http://davemalloy.com/threepianos.html

$18; for reservations visit www.flight18.net; Lower Manhattan Cultural Council is pleased to present FLIGHT 18, conceived, directed, and piloted by theatre artist Eric Wallach, a recipient of a Swing Space grant from LMCC. Taking place within a 6,000 square foot former retail store donated by General Growth Properties, FLIGHT 18 is an interactive performance that invites its passengers onboard a spaceship voyaging toward the outer limits of space. FLIGHT 18 is an environmental entertainment experience that rises out of the ashes of Ground Zero, offering a public forum where performers and audience can interact and freely express themselves. The event begins at the ticketing counter where each passenger is photographed and briefly interviewed. With their boarding passes, passengers go through security check, then down the jet way and onto the groovy boarding lounge. Ensemble members are interspersed amongst the public, and passengers interact with the provocative flight crew as well as the pilots in the cockpit through song, dance and the meeting of minds. Everyone is welcome to participate or simply enjoy the exchange. Unfasten your seat belts and feel free to enjoy your trip.

Landscapes
of Quarantine @ Storefront for Art and
Architecture, 97 Kenmare Street
Free; From Chernobyl's Zone of Exclusion to the
artificial quarantine islands of the New York archipelago, and from camps set
up to house HIV+ Haitian refugees at Guantánamo Bay to the modified Airstream
trailer within which returning Apollo astronauts once waved at President Nixon,
the landscapes of quarantine are as varied as they are unexpected. Landscapes
of Quarantine features new works by a multi-disciplinary group of eighteen
artists, designers, and architects, each of whom was inspired by one or more of
the physical, biological, ethical, architectural, social, political, temporal,
and even astronomical dimensions of quarantine. The opening reception will
showcase a one-night-only, inflatable quarantine prosthesis attached to
Storefront's façade, designed by architects Jeffrey Inaba and Joseph Grima, as
well as a range of beers generously donated by Brooklyn Brewery. During the
exhibition, a series of quarantine-inspired dinners will be hosted at the
gallery. As envisioned by Michael Cirino of A razor, a shiny knife, the events will feature
quarantine-aged meats, layered encapsulated flavors and other themed edibles.
