Tino Sehgal please help me understand; if a space is completely empty how is that your art?
Please continue to let me know whom to add onto this list. A lot of you are involved in the arts, so if you know of any events that I should be aware of, please tell me about them.
Enjoy. Naomi

January 9th-Febuary 21st W-Sun 12:00-6:00pm
Pixelville @ DUMBO Arts Center, 30 Washington Street, Brooklyn
$2; The pair collaborates à la a game of Exquisite Corpse, aware of the other's involvement but blind to specific compositional details, building their installation in much the same way as strangers living in proximity build their cities in unknowing tandem. And it is precisely this unpredictable urban jumble of flesh and concrete that the pair both celebrates and transcends in PIXELVILLE. A combination of biota-based sculptural elements by Alroy mingle with digital projections by Shor to create a microcosm of the future city — no longer a physical location, the "city" has become a state of mind, a pattern of fluctuating energy that has taken on an increasingly metaphorical existence with the advent of digital media.

January 27th 12:00-6:00pm
Companion @ EFA Project Space, 323 W 39th St, 2nd Fl
Free; Companion adds a dose of archive to a contemporary-art exhibition by pairing new works with the objects or images upon which they're based. The EFA Project Space group show is curated by Marisa Jahn for REV-, a new nonprofit collaborative aiming to shake up the contemporary arts scene. Jahn has brought together a diverse group of multimedia artists like Pablo Helguera, who remakes a 1950s television show for the YouTube generation, and Cui Fei, an installation artist whose hatch-marked assemblage demarcates the passage of time during the Sino-Japanese War.
January 27th 6:00-8:00pm
Visible Vagina @ Francis M. Naumann Fine Art, 24 West 57th Street
As the title of the exhibition suggests, the show is designed to make visible a portion of the female anatomy that is generally considered taboo―too private and intimate for public display. If shown at all, this part of a woman’s body is usually presented in an abject fashion, generally within the context of pornography, intended, in almost all cases, for the exclusive pleasure of men. The goal of this exhibition is to remove these prurient connotations, implicit even in works of art, ever since the pudendum was prudishly covered by a fig leaf. This gesture of false modesty, it should be noted, was devised and enforced entirely by men (not only in the case of classical sculpture, but also in the Bible, in which, immediately after their disobedience in the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve cover their genitalia with fig leaves).
January 27th 8:00pm
Missed Connections NYC: From the Pages of Craigslist @ Ars Nova Theater, 511 W 54th St
$15; Ripped straight from the online pages of Craigslist, this evening of theatre and music delves into those brief encounters with amusingly titled shorts like Brandon Jacobs-Jenkins' "You Were a Mexican with Friends," Zayd Dohrn's "It Was Wrong of Me: I Touched Your Butt on the L," and Janine Nabers' "I Might Be Supergirl, but..." Ars Nova has a great track record with new work — remember the hilariously debaucherous pirate-puppet extravaganza Jollyship the Whiz-Bang-giving us high hopes for an inventive outing. The evening also features a piece by Annie Baker, whose intricate character study Circle Mirror Transformation is easily one of the best plays of the season.

Mirror/Window
@ Louis v. E.S.P., 140 Jackson Street, 4D, Brooklyn
Free BYOB;
Mirror/Window is the inaugural installment of a nomadic, integrative
video art salon. The salon takes form at Louis V. E.S.P., a new
exhibition space located in the Williamsburg neighborhood of
Brooklyn, New York, and scheduled to begin full programming this
year. Presented in a two-channel facing format and running on a
continuous loop, the videos are forced to both confront and
familiarize themselves with one another, sparking new and unexpected
dialogues framed by notions of place and indulged in by the
spontaneity of moving image. sodhiwoodwardgmail.com,

Wear Your Wig to Work Day @ Your Office
Free; Dedicated to blurring the line between art and life, Mano/Damno uses projects like Wear Your Wig to Work Day to make the general public a participant rather than observer. Since the art takes the form of recognizable objects or happenings, the project is both familiar and inclusive. Wig Day is an art project that doubles as a ritualistic day of celebration and relaxation. Through Wig Day, Mano/Damno extends the traditional conception of “holiday,” thereby encouraging the public to think on their feet and actively engage with the artwork. www.manodamno.com

Starting this Friday, January 29th, at 9am, I will attempt to walk from 59th and Lexington to Times Square, and back. You are welcome to join at any point, and/or play online using #Theseus. Thank you, Man. http://manbartlett.tumblr.com/post/352747831/theseus

Idiotrod 2010 @ Secret NY Location
Rumors and hearsay are flying around the Internet about this year's Idiotarod. At first it appeared that dominating team DangerZone (really, it wins some aspect of the race pretty much every year) was heading organization efforts; but it now seems that it's sold out its stake to the mysterious Corporation X, and may be competing again. That should up the ante considerably for you shopping-cart mushers. Get your teams together, and plan an elaborate theme and costumes (bribes and skullduggery along the route won't hurt, either). Finally, stay tuned to CartsofBrooklyn.com for updates on the starting point, and just what the hell DangerZone is up to.
