Can Dagger not be used with Eclipse/Maven without manual fiddling with Eclipse settings ?

Unfortunately there don't seem to be any kind of instructions on how to get Dagger to work on the Dagger page. Through Google I found various posts from people suggesting copying of libraries, adding further dependencies in Maven (like javawriter and x.inject) that Dagger supposedly needs but doesn't declare, but in the end, I still get:

Module adapter for class package.ModuleName could not be loaded. Please ensure that code generation was run for this module.

the only solution to which seems to be to manually download some jars and adding them under some Eclipse project specific settings, which doesn't at all seem like a reasonable requirement. Am I doing things wrong ?

You must have "m2e-apt" installed for automatic configuration.  This used to need to be installed manually from the Eclipse markedplace.

Is that still true in eclipse neon?  M2E is now installed by default.  I'm astounded if m2e-apt is not also auto-installed.

We can make a note in the docks on ide setup gotchas.

m2e-apt is a JBoss project, not an Eclipse one. It's available from the marketplace but not bundled.
