Hi,
I recently started using pentadactyl, and I am repeatedly hitting zz after
having done a search. Unfortunaly this the z* combinations are reserved for
zooming, and I haven't found any other combinations that correspond to
zz,zt,zb either. This would be a great enhancement IMHO.
I understand that the position of the cursor is not really defined in
normal mode, but the currently active "find" should be a fairly consistent
definition of where the cursor is.

I am the reporter of Issue 1267 and frankly, I do not need zz, zt, or zb
keys, though it'd be good to have.
When you search and the match highlight somehow not being display on
screen, having manually to press the z* is not a solution.
Issue 476 suggested some margins, but again, if the overlay is too tall,
that wouldn't help. And that's why I requested an option to be able to
<find-next> and scroll the next match to middle of screen as Firefox's
search bar does.
The issue I have and one is written here shouldn't be resolved by having z*
keys, and it should be kept as separate issues. I don't want to press [n]
and [zz] every time I need to jump to next match.
This issue should be the feature request for z* and mine for the behavior
change or new option.

Obviously one would use :map to construct transparent mappings matching
your desired behaviour.

Well it seemed anything but obvious that you understood the possibility as
you said you didn't want to type "nzz" not that you didn't want to type the
rather more compact "n".
Your strong stance against mappings but not options is most admirable.
