The District Judging Committee will be in charge of all judging contests on the District level such as the Distinguished Officers and Sandy Nininger contests. Any dues-paid member in good standing is eligible to be a District Judge!

There will be two categories of District Judges: electronic and on-site. The majority of the contests are judged electronically and all District Judges will be contacted with further details, including a practice judging task prior to the judging of official submissions. Only the non-digital poster, non-traditional scrapbook, and traditional scrapbook contests are judged on-site. On-site judging will take place Friday of District Convention 2021. In addition, judges will receive proper training to judge these contests.

The 2020-2021 District Judging applications have been uploaded to the CyberKey under Recognition > Contests! To apply to be a District judge, fill out the District Judge application as a PDF and submit it to cnh.kcc...@gmail.comThe application is very short and will help you gain valuable knowledge about e-portfolios that you can use for future contests that you may apply for!

    • District Officer Candidate Training Conference
district officer ctc.jpeg

As the term comes to a close, it is just about time to elect the new District Governor, Secretary, and Treasurer for the 2021-2022 Key Club term! If you or someone you know is interested in running for one of these positions, it is mandatory to attend the District Officer Candidate Training Conference.

Only register and attend if you are seriously considering running for District Governor, District Secretary, or District Treasurer. These positions require a significant personal commitment where Key Club is expected to be your highest priority among all of your extracurricular activities.

Further instructions as well as your assignment will be provided after your registration is received and your attendance is accepted. Register early so that you will have more time to complete the pre-conference assignments. Region Advisor Victor Chan will also be copied on your registration confirmation.

    • District Convention 2021 Registration Postponement
Registration for DCON 2021 was originally planned to open on January 11th, 2021, however, it has been postponed until further notice. Please be on the lookout for more updates on DCON 2021: Stargazing in Service! We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

  • Division Updates
    • Division Goals 2020-2021: Progress
I present the most recent progress report on the 2020-2021 Division goals with much happiness! Despite the limitations that the pandemic has imposed, we have still managed to raise and serve so much. Since my last update a month ago, we have made tremendous progress on funds raised for PTP & our service hour goal. See below!
  • 3,763.06/4,200 Service Hours [89.59%]
  • $1,388.42/$3,500 for PTP [39.66%]
  • $503.10/$1,000 for MNT [50.31%]
  • Charter at least (1) club [100%]
    • As of November 9th, Jesse Bethel has been chartered and officially joined Division 8!
Look at how close we are to reaching our service hour goal! By the next two or so goals progress updates, I already know we will have long surpassed our initial goal of 4,200. Even with our fundraising goals, we have managed to raise over $1,000 for PTP & over $500 for MNT! I know our goals are far from the current numbers, but even coming remotely close to that number (with an ongoing pandemic) is still a great feat!
    • January DWS: 21 Tasks for 2021
In honor of 2021, the Spirit Committee has organized six asynchronous service events that are centered around the number '21.' The form to submit your hours has been created, which can be found here, or at bit.ly/d8tasks2021. The six different service events are:
  1. Letters to Hospital Patients: write letters to hospital patients (make sure to hold onto your finished items, as there will be further instructions for delivery)
  2. Charity Miles: walk/run/bike for at least 21 minutes a day
  3. Free Rice: use Free Rice for at least 21 minutes a day
  4. Trash Cleanup: pick up 21 pieces of trash a day or spend 21 minutes per day picking up trash
  5. Cranes for Cancer: fold cranes for Cranes for Cancer! (make sure to hold onto your finished items, as there will be further instructions for delivery)
  6. Color a Smile: color pages for Color a Smile
As asynchronous service events, you are to do these projects at your own discretion and keep all documentation. Your club secretaries will be provided with this information to get you accounted for.
    • January DWS: Care Package Assembly
As mentioned in my last email, we will be assembling care packages and donating them to those in need for our January DWS! An official sign-up (bit.ly/d8carepackages) has been created where you can fill in your name & information, along with the item(s) you plan on donating to the care package assembly (e.g. granola bars, mini hand sanitizer bottles, bottled water, etc.). As we continue to finalize drop-off locations, do anticipate a drop-off location located in the city your club is in, and at a President's house (Benicia, Fairfield, Napa, or Vallejo). For now, please indicate the city that you would like to drop your items at, and you will receive an email with the final address later.

Question of the Day: Would you rather have constantly dry eyes or a constant runny nose?

  • Upcoming Events
    • Sacramento Circle K: Gift of Giving
gog.jpeg
Gift of Giving is a day full of service featuring several service projects geared towards our ISI and DSI, where our Kiwanis Family will work together to benefit the community as a whole, such as making dog toys, love letters for literacy, and lots of online activities as well. There will also be one workshop station dedicated to fellowship! In addition to the registration, the extended deadline for ERFs is now Wednesday, January 13th @ 6:00 PM. If completed ERFs are not submitted to me by then, your club will not be able to attend GoG. (Attached at the bottom of this email is a copy of the ERF). Also, keep in mind that you need chaperone(s) that have had a background check with Kiwanis within the last two years present throughout the event!
    • January DCM: Region 9 Conclave
r9conclave.jpeg
Get excited for our upcoming January DCM as it will be held at Region 9 Conclave! Join us on January 23rd to elect the future Lt. Governor-Elect of Division 2 North, 2 South, 8, 26 North, and 26 South for the upcoming 2021-2022 term! More information about the event is as follows:
  • WHEN: Saturday, January 23rd from 11 AM - 4 PM
  • WHERE: Zoom | Access the registration here
In addition, it is imperative that you find two members from your club to serve as delegates. As a Division, we need to reach a quorum (at least 7/13 clubs in our Division needs to send delegates) in order for our Conclave to be validated. Make sure to reach out to your club officers if you are interested in being a delegate.
    • January DWF: Kiwanis Gift Basket & Auction Bid
Our January DWF will be in collaboration with Kiwanis! All proceeds raised from the auction & bid will go to PTP & MNT. Fundraising Coordinators Yuna & Aruushi have brainstormed several baskets that will contain items according to the basket's theme (e.g. Self Care Gift Basket - scented candles, bath bombs, etc.). As Key Clubbers, you are welcome to come watch (and possibly bid)! However, prices do get dramatically high so it would be ideal to observe and take this experience back to your club for a fundraising initiative to do on your own terms. Basic logistics of the event can be found below:
  • WHAT: We will be auctioning off gift baskets curated by Division 8's Fundraising Coordinators. There are five baskets up for grabs ranging from themes such as Self Care to Gourmet! Make sure to attend the event to find out more about the basket items and see what is available!
  • WHEN: Sunday, January 31st from 2 PM - 3 PM
  • WHERE: Zoom | Registration for the event will be released soon!
    • Winter Training Conference
We held a Division-wide training event back in June (Officer Training Conference) and it's been some time since then, so we will be holding another one in January! (Hence, the name, Winter Training Conference). In addition, I understand a few of the clubs in our Division did not have an officer board at the time we held our first officer training. Therefore, I wanted to hold a training conference that would narrow the gaps in knowledge caused by the lack of training. On top of this, we are entering into election season, so I figured this would be the perfect gateway to introduce potential candidates to positions they were interested in running for. Regardless, anyone is allowed to attend, whether you went to OTC, are just a general member, or have not attended a training conference yet! (so you should attend this one). You also get a point on MRP if you are aiming for that! Logistics of the event are below:
  • WHAT: Learn about position responsibilities, how to adapt to utilize the online environment to best suit your club's needs, membership recruitment, and much more! This conference is open to all that are interested in attending, and highly recommended for officers who have not received formal training for their position.
  • WHEN: Sunday, January 24th from 2 PM - 4 PM
  • WHERE: Zoom | Sign up for Winter Training Conference (WTC) here

Given the length of this email, you can probably tell that we have a busy, busy January! I am running a bit behind on schedule, so I want to end this email off with a few short reminders: make sure to start on your contests if you have not already, elect two delegates to attend this month's Conclave, and pay your dues before February 1st! Even if your club has already paid, please remember you can always recruit more members and pay for a second round. This will help alleviate the membership crisis that CNH is currently experiencing!

Don't forget your monthly submissions!
