  • District Updates
    • Service at Home: We Connect - Social Tech for Seniors *NEW*
We-Connect-Volunteer-Recruitment.png
The pandemic has caused many individuals to have to make a quick transition to 100% virtual interactions. For us, this turned out to be no issue. However, many individuals, especially seniors, have trouble adjusting to this, creating a growing digital divide. With this program, you will be helping to dispel this gap by teaching seniors digital literacy! You will be interacting with seniors to help teach them basic tech skills such as navigating Zoom & the web or how to text & use email. Experience with another language is highly valued, but not required!
If you register through their volunteer application, there are options for signing up for different activities such as reading to children or seniors. Feel free to sign up for them (if you want), but the last option titled 'We Connect' is what the flyer specifically indicates.
If you end up signing up, please let me know so we can set up an hour submission form to get you accounted for. To my club officers, please shoot this opportunity to the rest of your members. From now on, like Charity Miles & Freerice, this will be an ongoing DWS, meaning you can earn hours throughout the rest of the term for this event. Just make sure to report your hours to your respective secretary!
    • Elections Webinar: Resources
The first-ever virtual CNH Elections Webinar occurred last week. The recording, presentations, and service agreements can all be found in this folder. I highly recommend taking the time to go through the presentations as they contain valuable information on how elections should be conducted virtually. On the topic of elections, please disregard the District 'Intent to Run' form on my email regarding 'INFO | Running for Lieutenant Governor.' The District 'Intent to Run' has not been released yet, so please be on the lookout for an email with more information about that very soon. In addition, if you are interested in running for Lieutenant Governor, you must schedule a meeting with Region Advisor Victor Chan to go over the Service Agreement. You can find the link to do so here, and the last day to do so is January 7, 2021.
    • What is DCON? | District Convention 2021
Ready for DCON 2021? Here are the reasons why you should attend DCON 2021: Stargazing in Service! Personally, I find this video a perfect gateway when it comes to explaining what DCON is to new members. For more information and resources, go to cnhkeyclub.org, Events, District Convention, or feel free to DCON Chair Harin at cnhkc...@gmail.com.

Question of the Day: Would you rather be able to know the history of every object you have ever touched or be able to talk to animals?

  • Division Updates
    • Sacramento Circle K: Gift of Giving

Our division has been invited to the Sacramento State Circle K's annual event, Gift of Giving! It is an amazing social & service event, joint with:

Our annual Single Service Project, Gift of Giving (GoG), is coming up and we need your help! GoG is a day full of service featuring several service projects geared towards our ISI and DSI, where our Kiwanis Family will work together to benefit the community as a whole, such as making dog toys, love letters for literacy, and lots of online activities as well. There will also be one workshop station dedicated to fellowship!

Presidents must fill out an ERF for your club to attend the event. (I have attached it below). Also, keep in mind that you need chaperones that have had a background check with Kiwanis within the last two years present throughout the event! Completed ERFs must be emailed to me by January 8th, 2021. Basic logistics of the event are as follows:

    • Governor's Visit
Also on the same day (January 16th) is our Governor's Visit! The 2020-2021 Kiwanis District Governor, Gary Gray, will be on call in order to check up on our Kiwanis family and the SLPs they sponsor. We would like as many members to be on call, as the more, the merrier! More information about the event will be released soon, so be on the lookout on our socials and future emails.

  • Upcoming Events
    • January DCM: Region 9 Conclave
This year’s Conclave will be conducted as a Region! We will be holding Conclave between Divisions 2 North, 2 South, 26 North, and 26 South. Besides the DCM & Conclave, we will be partaking in several Division bonding activities such as Jackbox Games and more! All members are welcome, however, in order to attend as a delegate, you need to be from a club in good standing, meaning, you are dues-paidPlease be on the lookout for more information regarding registration, both as a delegate and audience member.
    • January DWS: Care Packages
Our live January DWS will include assembling care packages for those in need! These packages will include a few sanitation items (hand sanitizers, wipes, etc.), snacks such as granola bars & bottled water, and a handwritten/decorated note. We are still in the midst of finding an organization to donate these items to, so if you have any suggestions, please feel free to let me know! More information about when/where items can be dropped off & how they will be assembled, but to get started, you can choose an item from the list below and buy it for now, but have this donation on standby:
  • Granola bars
  • Bottled water
  • Mini hand sanitizer bottles
  • Mini sanitation wipes
  • Face masks
  • And any more you may think of! (Please let me know what you plan on donating if you end up straying from the items above)
    • January DWS: 21 Tasks for 2021
The asynchronous January DWS will revolve around the number 21 for the year 2021! EA Sophia & the Spirit Committee have planned six activities for members to do throughout the month of January to earn service hours. Please note, you do not have to do all six service activities, you can pick from a variety of service opportunities to earn hours. In addition, you do not need to do each allotted time for each activity, they are just suggestions to fit with our theme of 2021. Either way, you earn service hours! Now, what are these activities? See below:
  1. Letters to Hospital Patients: write letters to hospital patients (make sure to hold onto your finished items, as there will be further instructions for delivery)
  2. Charity Miles: walk/run/bike for at least 21 minutes a day
  3. Free Rice: use Free Rice for at least 21 minutes a day
  4. Trash Cleanup: pick up 21 pieces of trash a day or spend 21 minutes per day picking up trash
  5. Cranes for Cancer: fold cranes for Cranes for Cancer! (make sure to hold onto your finished items, as there will be further instructions for delivery)
  6. Color a Smile: color pages for Color a Smile
No need to follow the allotted time sections as these are just mere suggestions, feel free to do at least one activity or go all out and do all six! A submission form has not been made yet (look for the next email update or on our socials), but it's never too late to start & make sure to keep all documentation.

And here comes the end of the email! I apologize for the last email update as I completely forgot to add a 'Question of the Day' and properly end the email. However, I will keep the promise I made at the beginning of this email and keep it short (but make sure to close it out properly as well). Have a Happy New Year and see you all in the new year! ( ˘ ³˘)♥︎
