- Circle K's Assistance to Graduating Seniors
A special message from Circle K's Kiwanis Family & Foundation Chair! If there are any graduating seniors interested in more information about the college they plan to attend, please fill out this link. By filling out this form, you will have the opportunity to learn more about the school you will be attending for the next four years and be partnered with a CKI member that can mentor and prepare you for what is in store!
This is mostly directed to any graduating seniors of our division, but if you happen to know any, please relay the same message to them!
- DCON 2021 Basic Information
For those of you who do not know what DCON is, it is an annual affair in which Key Clubbers from all over the CNH District gather to celebrate the end of the new term. It is a gathering of over 2,000+ Key Clubbers! Although DCON 2020 was canceled, we still have another chance! DCON 2021 is already underway! (a promotional graphic is attached as a PDF below). The following is some basic information you should know:
- DCON 2021 Theme Logo Design Contest
In addition, the district is now accepting submissions for the DCON 2021 Theme Logo Design Contest! All of the guidelines regarding this contest can be found in the guide attached below.
- Division Updates
- The Eliminate Project | Division 8 Fundraiser (UPDATE)
Yes, I know in my last email that I stated that we were finished with fundraising for The Eliminate Project (for now). However, I have another update!
I received yet another donation from the Kiwanis Club of American Canyon which allowed us to surpass our former goal of $500 for The Eliminate Project. We are currently at a total of $503.10!
The new goal is now set to a total of $1,000 to be donated to The Eliminate Project on behalf of Division 8! I would like to relay a sincere thank you to the Kiwanis Club of American Canyon, Benicia, and those within our division that donated for allowing us to not only reach our initial goal but surpass it!
Once again, we are gonna go on hold when it comes to fundraising for The Eliminate Project (focusing on PTP now!) but catch us discussing it in the future.
- Freerice & Charity Miles (UPDATE)
Since my last email update introducing these two volunteer opportunities, I would like to provide some statistics as to how we've done:
For Freerice, we have donated a total of 203,780 grains of rice and rank #691! Special shoutout to @starro433, who places first in our division-group. (You will have to reveal your identity to us all one day!) Remember, if you would ever like to reach milestones/earn service hours together, join our division-group by typing in the code: GY98QTT3.
For Charity Miles, we have done a total of 134.79 miles as a division! That is $13.48 raised for the preferred charities of the CNH District! Shoutout to Sophia Li of Benicia Key Club for maintaining first place with a total of 51 miles!
*Quick disclaimer, I know the numbers are much higher but those statistics were taken at the time of writing this! (06/14/20 @ 3:08 PM).
Remember, the amount of time spent on these programs earn service hours! Contact me or any presidents for more details!
Question of the Day: Would you rather have a million dollars or another seven years of life?
You heard of Charity Miles, but are you aware of atlasGO? It is pretty much the same concept, for every mile of activity covered, you unlock funds for a non-profit partner! All you need to do is download the app and make sure to join our division team. You can do that by typing in 'Division 8 Ballers' in the search box for 'Team.'
Once again, this is an opportunity to learn service hours! Make sure to time yourselves to receive the appropriate service hours and report it to your respective officers. Happy exercising! ≧◡≦
- June DWS: Cards for Hospitalized Kids
Our monthly Division Wide Service Events (DWS) will be writing cards for the national organization, Cards for Hospitalized Kids! Make sure to advertise this event to the rest of your club if you are looking for service opportunities!
- On the topic of service opportunities, make sure to check out the Division 8 Service Project Ideas document. It is consistently updated by our Service Projects Coordinator, Sophia Li, so make sure to honor her hard work and take advantage of these opportunities!
- Upcoming Events
- June DWS: Trivia Night for a Cause
Our June DWS will encompass division bonding, a chance to earn service hours or prizes, and donating to charity! Admission to our Trivia Night for a Cause will be a minimum donation of $1. All proceeds raised from our June DWS will go to The Loveland Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing financial assistance to communities of color, especially to black women and girls. The funds raised will go to therapy sessions that will engage empowerment and liberation to the communities they serve. If you are interested in attending, please make sure to pre-register using this form. It will ask for an email address that we can send the link & passcode to! (ᵔᴥᵔ) - Officer Training Conference
This is me changing this graphic for like the third time but I promise this is the last time. Please note the date change for Officer Training Conference, it is now occurring the fourth week of June (22nd to 26th) instead of the second.
Links to access the training conferences, as well as the time slots/dates, can be found in our division-wide calendar. Members are allowed to attend and so are officers that do not hold that respective position! All you need to do is
RSVP to Officer Training Conference through this link. It will give me a heads up of how many people we should anticipate in order to plan accordingly.
I would also like to take the time to speak on a pressing matter going on around our country. During these tough times, it is now more than ever the time to show compassion and care to everyone around us. As an organization built on the core values of caring, inclusivity, and compassion, this encompasses EVERYONE in the homes, schools, and communities we serve. From Division 8 to CNH District, we do not tolerate racial discrimination in any shape or form.
As a division, I would like to organize a donation to any non-profit organizations in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, in which our Trivia Night for a Cause (see above for more details!) comes in. In the meantime, this link contains resources that you can access to individually do your part to help, it includes petitions, ways you can donate (with or without money), protesting locations, and much more.
Thank you for everyone that tuned in this week! Although it is a bit time-consuming, I genuinely enjoy writing these emails as a means of communication to you all. I remember from last year's term, reading IP Lieutenant Governor Katie Hans' emails were one of the highlights of my week, so I hope it is the same for you! (She also gave me the idea of including a hidden question). Make sure to answer the hidden question in the email, I love reading your responses! (◌˘◡˘◌)
During these challenging and unprecedented times, if you ever need someone to talk to, I want to let you know that I am here for you, and merely an email, phone call, or text away!
Don't forget your monthly submissions!
