How to save and reload d3 visualization states?

Is it possible to convert d3 visualization (force layout, chart, etc.) to json or xml that could be reloaded later? The reloaded graph should at least maintain the same elements there, better if it keeps the same layout, and best if it keeps all the events (drag, zoom, brush, etc.)

it's possible, but not built in. you will need to design it into your implementation
