quantize vs quantile (and then quantize.quantile())

I've been mapping for a long time, but sometimes I just can't get the difference between quantize and quantile. 

This isn't quite doing it for me:

(Occasionally it comes into focus, and then goes right back out of focus again. Add quantize.quantiles() into the mix, and then I'm just flummoxed.

Would be great if someone "in the know" could do a visualization of all of the scales (and maybe even including Jenks natural breaks in the visualization ( https://gist.github.com/tmcw/4969184  )

I picture a bar chart, maybe, and buttons that show how each of the scales would classify the data.

Anyone game for this? (Or has it already been done?)
