I'm trying to wrap my head around D3 and hitting dead ends. I think if I shift and learn by working on something that I am interested in that I might benefit more. Does anyone know of any tutorials for timelines in D3?

Hi Brian,

For the timeline you can take a look at https://github.com/jiahuang/d3-timeline  It's not a tutorial but It can probably help you.

Perhaps a gantt chart could also be interesting for you: http://dk8996.github.io/Gantt-Chart/

Hope it helps

Best,
Jean

Here's a video tutorial segment about line charts. I'm not sure if this is what you mean by "timelines", but it may help with general understanding of using D3 with time scales.

All the best,

Curran - I had just come across your video's early last week and want to say they are exceptional.  I just completed a Web Development Boot camp from General Assembly in NY and was trying to specialize in D3 the whole time.  I've recently gotten permission from them to sponsor a D3 meetup group and was going to use some of you video content to convey concepts.  I'm also going to ask if there is any chance of me presenting an evening 3 hour seminar and would once again like your permission to use your Intro to D3 slide deck\examples.

I agree with JeanMercier about https://github.com/jiahuang/d3-timeline being a good starting point. I used that as a starting point for a place where users can create their own timelines (eg timeline: http://www.summagram.com/Summagram/ViewSummagram/FIFAWorldCup2014 ). Worked out well.

Joe,

Thank you. Sure, feel free to use my material in any way you'd like, be it showing portions of the video or presenting the slides/examples yourself. I think that would be great. In fact, Micah Stubbs of the Houston Data Vis meetup will be doing exactly that at an upcoming meetup - Intro to Scalable Vector Graphics. My aim is to spread knowledge about D3, with no strings attached, so go for it!

All the best,
Curran
