<Dr Nick Voice> "Hello every-body!"

I'm excited to help out with the site.

I've used it a lot for my current Rise of the Runelords Campaign and I thought it would be good to give something back as I convert the last two modules to PFRPG.

I'm still digesting the design standards so it will probably take me a little while to get up to speed.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to the site so far.  :)

One question as I start working on some conversions.

What do I do with conversions that are impossible with published Pathfinder material?

Case in point:  In Rise of the Runlords book 5 Sins of the Saviors there's a succubus named Delvahine that has class levels in "dominant" from a book called Plot & Poison (written for D&D 3.0) published by Green Ronin.  I think it's pretty safe to say that that book is never going to be released for the Pathfinder system.

What to do?

1)  Buy a pdf of the book somewhere and shoehorn the 3.0 class levels onto a pathfinder npc?

2)  Just forget the odd book and try to get as close as I can to the flavor of the character using Pathfinder rules?  In this case I'd probably just add more bard or rogue levels.

3)  Don't convert her?

What do y'all think?

Thanks.

Hello Zak,

Welcome to the crew! Brett and I take care of the bestiary, stop we'll try to field your questions best we can. For unconverted classes, we typically attempt to retain as much of the underlying class abilities as much as possible... Most 3rd party classes had little in the way of unique mechanics.

If converting class abilities is not, possible or simply does not give a desirable result, we typically substitute with a suitable class from pathfinder to create a character with a similar power level and abilities.

I'm either case, please make sure you put up drafts into the bestiary conversion queue so others can provide feedback as well as help fix errors.

Vlad

Also, another option is that if the source material is available for purchase in PDF format at a reasonable price I am not opposed whatsoever to purchasing it for whomever needs it for conversion purposes.

Just tell me where and how much it is :)

OK, it took me forever to find it but this is the 3.5 update to Plot and Poison released by Green Ronin.

$13.50 for the PDF if that's the route you guys decide to go.

As a side note, though I'm generally opposed to freely bittorrenting products like these, I did check for it on my trusted host Demonoid.  No luck.  If other people have trusted hosts they'd like to check, I think the dice gods will forgive us since all Zak's trying to do is convert.

If we *know* the content we need is Open Game Content its worth buying. If we aren't sure, we might want to see if there is a way to know before dropping $14 and then finding out we can't use it. Since it was used in a PF book though its almost certainly OGC.

I'll investigate in the a.m. Bed time for me now!

Access to the book may not really give you what you want to know anyways, you're still going to have to convert all the class features to pathfinder standards. I'm still advocating for taking the monster as presented, pulling out all the class features that it has on top of its normal monster abilities and then converting those features individually or substituting with equivalent class features from pathfinder. It's essentially the same thing you're going to have to do after you buy the book but saves you the $14...

Well this thread has been all over the place, but:

I have Plot and Poison hard copy - I meant to convert the mentioned
prestige classes to Pathfinder, but haven't gotten around to it since
I stopped working on Rise of the Rune Lords. They are OGL, so I think
we can convert.

As far as the Bestiary 2, u-z is now done. We only have a few left in
D.

I'm going to start final review of the creatures for the Bestiary II.
There will be a feedback page. I'm not anticipating much in the way
of major changes, so this should be their final location before moving
them in the Bestiary proper later this month.

Thanks to everyone who has worked so hard on making this project
work. It couldn't have been done without a ton of dedication. I'm
certain GM's everywhere will appreciated this!

Thanks again!

Say, has anyone converted the dinosaurs or the dhampire from the d's
yet? If not, I'll go ahead and do that, since I've got some side
things in my lab brewing relating to those.

I've been making an alternate Paizo races page
(http://www.d20pfsrd.com/extras/community-creations/brreitz-s-lab/alt-races)
with every 0-HD race in the bestiary and bestiary 2, and a new Animal
Companions page
(http://www.d20pfsrd.com/extras/community-creations/brreitz-s-lab/alt-races).

Re: Animal Companions, I really like how the Schools/Bloodlines have
been moved to Wizard/Sorcerer subpages, and I think we should do the
same with Animal Companions and Eidolons. It's much easier to
navigate, since they're practically characters unto themselves.

I think the dhampires and dinosaurs are up for grabs Blake. The animal companion rearrangement sounds good. I'd like to echo Brett's in thanking everyone for all of their work on B2. We'll be adding the last few and starting proofreading over the next few days (I'm likely going to try and double check and incorporate a lot of the errata posted over on the Paizo forums into text boxes on our end).

Quick almost-related question!  I notice that creatures from the Bonus Bestiary don't have any descriptions.  Is that a limitation on the OGL in the Bonus Bestiary, or is just something I could go ahead and add?

Hello all! I'd like to thank everyone again for their efforts on the B2 project, which is coming along nicely!

After counting many heads, tails, or other applicable protrusions I'm pretty sure we have everything from the book on the site now other than the primal dragons. I think Aron wanted the Umbral dragons, but the others are up for grabs. We would obviously love to have all the age categories written up and ready to go before everything goes live, but we understand that's not possible. For now, we'd like to get it formatted like we have the old dragons, with a front page for each dragon color with links to the individual dragon pages (as an example, you can use this page).

Brett and I are starting the editing process so we need help to finish up this last little bit! Please let me know if you're willing to pick up a dragon page!

Just to update - everything from A and B has been reviewed at this
point. The Primal Dragons still need to be done. Volunteers welcome,
otherwise I may start on it tomorrow (Thursday). I've started tagging
a few variant monsters from B2 we can look into stating out. I'll
post a full list once we finish reviewing. In case anyone is
interested:

Zombie, Void Template
Zombie, Void example
Advanced Shield Archon (for when the Star Archon dies)
Bee, Giant Bumblebee
Blink Dog Sage

And those are just from A and B!

Good night!

Thursday Update: Everything A-C final reviewed. Started work on
Primal dragons - Main page created, Brine Dragon page created, Young
and Adult brine dragons created. Site crashed on me in the middle of
Ancient Brine Dragon. Will start with that tomorrow.

Help needed: The other Primal Dragons. Please just set up the basic
page and the Young, Adult, and Ancient versions included in the B2.

We're in the home stretch!

Thanks!

Brett

And with Ancient Umbral Dragon, everything has been made into a page.
We're a bit behind in review - we're officially only half way through
D, but still looking with starting release into the main Bestiary this
Friday, with mop up operations over the weekend.

Thanks to everyone who helped!

Brett

Yep, I second that Brett. Great work everyone. Assuming all goes according to schedule we should have all of B2 online Friday night, or worst case scenario by the end of the weekend.

If people want to go on Paizo (or Enworld/whatever) and mention that, feel free :)

Current update on this project, to keep everyone abreast of what's going on behind the scenes. We've got all the monsters posted and we're working on making sure everything is properly indexed and linked (as well getting a site map rebuilt so they start showing up in searches). There are a few more tasks remaining for Bestiary 2, and I've compiled a crude and very likely incomplete list here. If anyone is interested in helping out with any of those, feel free to pick up tasks and strike them off the list as you go.
