We are proud to announce the first beta release of Cytoscape.js.  Cytoscape.js -- previously Cytoscape Web 2 -- is a graph library completely written in JavaScript.

Those of you who are familiar with Cytoscape Web will feel right at home with Cytoscape.js.  The same concepts used in Cytoscape Web are also used in Cytoscape.js, and we’ve built upon them with better rendering technologies and a vastly-improved API.

The uses of Cytoscape.js are varied:  You can use it to visualise your data using the included canvas renderer.  The renderer provides user interactivity, so your users can move nodes around, for example.  You can even use Cytoscape.js headlessly to take advantage of its graph model.

Cytoscape.js can be used directly in HTML.  It’s also a CommonJS module, so you can use it in your Node.js projects, as well.

Among the notable features of Cytoscape.js are

  • a jQuery-inspired API
  • out-of-the-box support for touch-based devices like the iPad
  • API support for developers to write custom layouts and renderers
  • the ability to write your own extensions

Please give Cytoscape.js a try, and let us know what you think.  If you encounter an issue, please note it in the issue tracker on GitHub or notify us on the cytoscape-discuss Google Group.

Thank you for your continued support of the project.
