I'm having problems with installation. I've installed 64-bit Java but
when I try to install Cytoscape I get the error:

"The install4j wizard could not find a Java(TM) Runtime Environment on
your system. Please locate a suitable 64-bit JRE. (minimum version:
1.5.0)"

When I click 'locate' and browse to the Java program folder and then
to folder 'bin' and then to Java.exe, I get the error:

"The JVM found at {0} is damaged. Please reinstall or define
EXE4J_JAVA_HOME to point to an installed 64-bit JDK or JRE.

Log: C:\Users\Sean\AppData\blahblahblah"

Do you need the contents of that log to diagnose? Is this a problem
with Cytoscape or with Java? I don't know how to test Java. Other
programs that use it (FF, OO.o, Inkscape) have been working okay but
TBH, I don't even understand what Java RTE even means.

Hi Sean,
I'm not familiar with the specifics from install4j, probably someone else can jump in here, but I think the log definitely would help.
Cheers,
Piet

Not sure what's going on, but in this case I'd suggest just installing Cytoscape from the zip file available on the downloads page.  Just unzip in the desired location and you're good to go.

I am having the same problem as the original poster. Does anybody know if there is a fix available for this?

Also, in regards to Mike Smoot's suggestion, I downloaded the "Archived Distribution Files" (only ZIP file available on the downloads page), but I don't see an installer anywhere in that folder. Am I missing something?

Thanks for the help!

On Windows, Java errors are commonly caused by having a 32-bit version of Java installed on a 64-bit operating system. If you have a 64-bit version of Windows (most newer systems do), could you try manually downloading the 64-bit Java Runtime Environment, installing it, and then trying Cytoscape again? If that doesn't work, it would help to know a bit more about your configuration - operating system version, memory, and Java version in particular.

Also, with respect to the ZIP version - that one does not have an installer. You just expand the zip file to whatever directory you wish and run the cytoscape.bat to launch Cytoscape. In general, the installer should be used unless you are having problems running it...

Hello,

I was getting an error "No jvm could be found on your system", while trying to open Cytoscape on my Windows system (64-bit version). I tried to uninstall and re-install java for 64-bit several times and then trying to open Cytoscape, after restarting my computer. Nothing worked. Here is what worked for me
(1) uninstall Java
(2) go to http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre8-downloads-2133155.html to download Java SE Runtime Environment 8u65
(3) For Windows x64 download jre-8u65-windows-x64.exe
(4) Restart computer after installing the above version of java.
(5) Open Cytoscape!

I suspect you were getting 32-bit Java if that was happening - by default, java.com downloads 32-bit even if you're on a 64-bit system. You have to manually download 64-bit Java as you've described for 64-bit Cytoscape to work...
