Hi NRNB Mentors,

My name is Subinita Ray, and I am a 3rd-year Mechanical Engineering student at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Agartala. I am writing to express my strong interest in contributing to NRNB for GSoC 2026.

While my core degree is in Mechanical Engineering—which has given me a deep appreciation for complex systems and network optimization—my passion lies at the intersection of Full-Stack Development and Data Science.

Why I am a strong fit for NRNB:

  • Technical Stack: I am proficient in Python (Django/FastAPI) and JavaScript (React), with experience building scalable web applications and REST APIs.

  • Systems Thinking: I recently developed "Resilio-Route NE," a framework for resilient logistics and landslide prediction. I see a fascinating parallel between optimizing physical supply chains and analyzing biological pathway resilience.

  • UI/UX Focus: Through my design brand, Oitijhya Designs, I’ve delivered 30+ customized products, focusing on user-centric interfaces—a skill I hope to bring to projects like the Unified App Store (#285) or GraphSpace UI.

  • Proven Execution: I am a national-level hackathon winner with experience in handling end-to-end project lifecycles, from data analysis (XGBoost, Random Forest) to deployment.

I am particularly interested in Project #285: Unified App Discovery, as it perfectly aligns with my React/Django background. I have already begun exploring the cytoscape/appstore repository.

Questions for Mentors:

  1. Is there a specific "warm-up" or qualification task you would recommend for Project #285?

  2. Are there specific architectural priorities for the 2026 cycle that I should keep in mind while drafting my proposal?

I have attached my portfolio/GitHub link below for your reference. I look forward to contributing to the NRNB community!

Best regards,

Subinita Ray

Hi Subinita,

Thank you for your interest. As to your questions.

1) For a warm up, try to set up and run the AppStore Django app locally. There is documentation on miniconda setup (or vagrant) under the wiki: https://github.com/cytoscape/appstore/wiki

2) Would be nice to include changes that make switching to 5.2 LTS less painful

thanks,

chris
