Dear Sir/Madam,

I was trying to install linux cytoscape 2.8.1 to my unbunta linux
workstation.

In my working directory C:/cytoscape.

I have only one file downaload from the webpage, i.e.
cytoscape_2_8_1_unix.sh.

By typing chmod +x cytoscape_2_8_1_unix.sh.

I type ./cytoscape_2_8_1_unix.sh to call up the program.

However, the following error message appears.

"gunzip: sfx_archive.tar.gz: not in gzip format

I am sorry, but the installer file seems to be corrupted. If you
downloaded that file please try it again. If you transfer that file
with ftp please make sure you are using binary mode."

I was downloading the file by Mozilla firefox, and save the file as it
is normally. What can do to overcome this problem? Should I modifiy
the cytoscape_2_8_1_unix.sh file? Should I add the
cytoscape.vmoptions file? If yes, What should be added to this file?

Thanks a lot.

Which version of Ubuntu are you using?  I've tried this on RedHat and Ubuntu 10.10 without problem.  First, I'd try downloading the file again.  If it still isn't working for you then might consider downloading the zip or tar.gz file.  The installer script just adds a button for double-clicking, but otherwise the software is identical.
