How do I install yFiles in the latest Cytoscape 3.6.0?

Clicking on "Install" in the Chrome page for yFiles shows the error:

http://apps.cytoscape.org/apps/yfileslayoutalgorithms

Could not install “yFiles Layout Algorithms” app: install failed: this app is incompatible with your version of Cytoscape

What to do? Help, please.

Raj

Hi, Raj --

This is supposed to install in current Cytoscape 3.6 without any problem. Immediately after it does, you should see a license dialog box that you can Accept or Decline.

Which operating system are you running, and which JVM?

If all else fails, try terminating Cytoscape, removing your CytoscapeConfiguration folder in your user directory, and restarting Cytoscape to then install yFiles.

Please let us know ...

Thank you for the info.

I was indeed trying to install yFiles by following the directions at the URL in your email I clicked on "Install yFiles Layouts ..." within the "Layouts" menu.

After I tried it a couple of times, I realized that I was running an older version of Cytoscape (v3.3.1) in parallel with the newer version. When I closed the older version, then the web-based install worked smoothly as expected.

Thank you,
Raj

Thanks, Raj --

Good catch. So, this is what happened:

Cytoscape 3.3 grabbed the local TCP/IP port that the App Store uses to install the app when you hit the "Install" button. Apparently, Cytoscape 3.6 started afterward and tried to grab the port and failed.

So, the App Store communication was taking place with v3.3, not v3.6.

It would be very helpful for Cytoscape to have let you know that it couldn't bind to the App Store port ... a clear message would have gone a long way.

I'll add this to our feature list ... maybe for the next release.

Thanks, and sorry for the trouble.
