Running multiple instances of cytoscape 3.7

Hi, 

I have always run multiple instances of cytoscape but when I tried to do this using cytoscape 3.7 I got the following error:

karaf: There is a Root instance already running with name Cytoscape 3.7.0 and pid 31725. If you know what you are doing and want to force the run anyway, export CHECK_ROOT_INSTANCE_RUNNING=false and re run the command.

Is there a reason why I now have to export an environment variable to do it? Is this a variable I can modify in the cytoscape.sh file so I don't have to export this variable every time or is that not recommended (or alternately add to my .bashrc file)?  Also, just wondering why was this introduced.

Hi Ruth,

We upgraded to use a newer version of Karaf in order to allow Java 8, so some of the default behaviours likely changed.

I'm the last person to have done work on Karaf, so I'm happy to work with you on getting your use case running.

Maybe we can try to see if starting with a separate karaf config directory throws the same error.
