Hello cytoscape helpdesk,

I am currently unable to export images of my network (both png and jpeg). I just get an error that says 'Access is denied'. When I check the task history it says either...

couldn't find resource 'writer.org.cytoscape.io.internal.write.graphics.BitmapWriter.props' in jar. Caught exception executing task.

OR

couldn't find resource 'writer.org.cytoscape.io.internal.write.graphics.PNGWriter.props' in jar

I have tried looking for these as apps for cytoscape or a generic program but they don't appear. I've tried looking for others with same issue but it does not seem to be affecting other people. Does anyone know what I need to do?

Kind Regards,
Brian

Hi,

The couldn't find resource messages are just warnings that can be ignored, but the 'Access is denied' message implies you might not have
write permission to the directory you are trying to save the image. Try running a network export as image and choose a different destination directory like Desktop.

Thank you for your reply Christopher. Yes the message still occurs when I export to desktop and I also get same error when I export table. I tried opening cytoscape in administrative mode and giving accounts full control in security permissions but no change. Error is limited to this computer - can get it to work on my laptop. Are there any ways I can give cytoscape more privileges from within or does cytoscape maybe use additional folders in the background I need to look at?

It's Windows 7 64-bit. Good specs - 16gb ram, i7-4770k 3.50 GHz, GTX 980

Hi,
To help troubleshoot could you send us the framework-cytoscape.log file. There are instructions on how to find that file here:

This is a bit more tricky, but there are also instructions for running Cytoscape on the command line
which will output additional logging information that could give better clues as to what is going on.

thanks,

chris
