hi there

I downloaded the latest .obo files from genontology.org (go-basic.obo) and I wanted to get also the latest annotation file for human.
the latter I got the gene_association.goa_human file from here: ftp://ftp.ebi.ac.uk/pub/databases/GO/goa/HUMAN/

however, when I use them together in BiNGO I get the error "The selected annotation does not produce any classification for the selected nodes. Maybe you chose the wrong type of gene identifier?"

however, when I don't use the .goa_human file I do get ontologies out even if I get the Warning message: Some category labels in the annotation file are not defined in the ontology. please check the compatibility ...etc...etc..."

so, the .obo file I think it's correct since it comes straight from geneontology.org, what about the .goa_human file? is that the wrong file?

thanks

That annotation file should work if you are using a human network - though you may want to try getting the annotation file from Gene Ontology as well (I think it's the same version, but as I can't log on to the FTP site I don't know for sure). If you have a different type of network, you will need to use the ontology for that organism. Otherwise, you will get an error like the one you saw...

If you are still having issues, can you tell us what kind of network are you using and/or share a copy of the network?

Hope this helps...

Tim
