Hello,

I have started working with Cytoscape 3.2, and have noticed that the way network style elements are managed has been redone.

While some of the properties are still available through the new interface (node fill, border thickness, etc.), others that I cannot seem to locate some other properties that I would like to modify.

In particular:

- edge color and thickness
- background color

I found a somewhat unintuitive way to modify the background color:

1. Right-click network background area
2. Go to "Edit" -> "Bypass Style" -> "Set Bypass to Network"

This will then open a separate set of style options than is normally available through the style editor, which includes an option to change the background color. The problem is that once you do this, I cannot see any way to bring back the original style options relating to nodes, etc.

Finally, the Wiki manual section on styles (http://wiki.cytoscape.org/Cytoscape_3/UserManual#Styles) has not been updated to the new style editor, and so I cannot find any solution to the problem there either.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Keith

Hi,
These can be found in the style tab of the control panel, under the edge tabbed pane (tabs located at the bottom end of the panel).
If you expand the properties dropdown you'll be able to select all properties. The background color is a property of the network and hence located in the network tabbed pane.
Hope this helps,
Piet

Hi Piet,

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately the separate tabs for "edge", "node" and "network" styles no longer exist for me in Cytoscape 3.2.0.

For 3.0.x, however, those options do exist.

Best,
Keith

Hi Keith,
Just to make sure I attached a screenshot from the style panel; at the bottom of the image you see the tabs.
These have disappeared in your current Cytoscape 3.2 installation?

Hi Piet,

That is correct -- here is a better screenshot including the tabs at the top.

I restarted cytoscape, however, and the tabs not appear as they should. I'm not sure what I did to mess up the display, and I could have sworn it was persisting through restarts, but more than likely I just did something strange.

In any case, things appear to be working fine now.

Thanks again for the suggestions!

All the best,
Keith

Hi Keith,
If you manage to reproduce this don't hesitate to file it as a bug. It might have to do with one of the apps installed that is hijacking the tabbed panes. This is something that definitely should not occur.
Thanks,
Piet
